Guess this goes here, because, well, because it can bring lots of discussion on consumerism and shoptherapy, specially when it's linked with Christmas. Care to discuss those?
As some may know, I have some deep Professional roots on Sales and marketing. I live with those, I work with those.
That's why I am spreading the word about the Buy Nothing Day, November 27th.

Although the person behind it has some good ideas, his view is flawed on two aspects, in this coyote's opinion.
It is not fault of the salesperson, or we can not blame the poor retailer who works week after week. They do but follow the flow, follow the money, follow the customers. However we, we, the Joe People and Mary People, we have no excuse. We decided that some shoptherapy is the cure for all evils, every signal of sick body and soul. We empty our wallets on things we don't need trying to fulfill that part that is missing, and we don't know exactly what is.
We became little more than pockets that breath and work to get more toys. The newest cell phone, with tons of features we will never use. The online game full of special effects that drags us away from the only community that matters: the one that is outside your door. Your friends. People you like, not just because they are in some game along with you, but that you would like anywhere, no matter what. The community gathered by feelings, more than chips. Even if it begins with some computer interaction, real friendship goes below that (and, as a personal example, I can mention CF's Arizona Sunshine, Petr, Vaj, lifesaver, among others. Hugs and peace, people)
And, as time went by, we are becoming more and more living pockets. Forgetting the reason we are in this planet. Certainly is not the Idea of God - whatever is your Idea of Him - to Create millions of pockets and wallets running around. At least, I hope not.
That's why I support nov 27th not only as Buy nothing Day, but as Charity Day. Use the time you would spent in a shop, and go visit some retirement house. Go donate blood. Go help making some soup for the needed. Go read for some poor children. No matter what are your skills, you know, at least, how to chop some vegetables, right? You do have, at least, some blood you can give, right? And, since during November 27th you will not set a foot in any shop, you will have plenty of time.
This November 27th, do not buy. Instead, give yourself to people you don't know and will hardly see again. Watch their eyes shine. What gadget buys that? How can you buy those with a credit card?
This November 27th, discover why you are living for. Spread the word. Make the difference.
November 27th, Buy nothing Day (http://www.buynothingday.co.uk/ ). November 27th, Charity Day, for the Good Will People.
Do you think It may work? Is it possible that, some years from now, we will have a day where everybody does anything but shop? Or this world is already too hardned and used to a routine, that the cause is Quixotesque?
Thanks for reading and the atention
