• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I just learnt a new way of keeping from cutting. I was on a different bored & they said about butterflys.
Its really cool. You draw a butterfly on your wrist or where ever you cut & colour it in & give it a name. The idea is you try to keep the butterfly alive for as long as you can by not cutting it.
You draw it back on as it washes off.
I think its a good idea. If your into the cute sorta thing.
My butterfly is named hanna, she's orange, green & blue.
Good luck everyone.

Heres hanna herself:

I think that is a great idea, or you can draw your pet or anything you wouldn't want to hurt.

This is a pretty cool idea. I have a tattoo on my left wrist that serves the same purpose but I never thought about doing it with a marker.

that is a good idea! i'd heard of drawing red lines and stuff, but never heard of or even thought of drawing a picture... but, idk, what do you do if someone see's it and asks about it?

I have something smiliar just much more perment because it is a tattoo. Most people cannot understand what it says because it isn't in English. People do ask about it when I where short sleaves and I usually tell them it is a special reminder of the past (which it is).

I'm not saying you should lie to people but you if it is someone you cannot tell about the SI just tell the that you got bored and drew on yourself. (I do that (draw) all the time)

I gotta find soemthing better to make my butterfly with, I used washable paints but most of it flakes off already. But it was distracting enough while I was putting it there.
I didn't name my butterfly.... I don't believe in naming something before you see it and it didn't last long enuogh lol.

this is a reaaaaally awesome idea!! i'm gonna need lots... only prob is we wear uniform at school and they're also quite strict, like we're not allowed to have tattoos or lavish jewelery etc... but i'll definitely give it a go! i used to write then names of people i didn't wanna hurt where i wanted to cut. it didn't really work, but i was much younger then.

thanks for sharing,
God bless you!
keep well
love always

i completely covered my lower arm once in an abstract design using gel pens....it took 3-4 hours to completely draw which was good, then of course i didn't want to waste all that time by just cutting over it...and it looked pretty too! so that was a big help, and your butterfly idea reminded me of it! i used to draw hearts but that didn't work as well as my design unfortunately
