To elaborate on the peace issue, think about the phrase "peace like a river" used in the calmer traditional hymns. That seems actually a little more suited for heavier music, seeing as a river is always moving and can get pretty fast. I mean, if the music bothers you and you can't worship to it, don't listen to it. Just realize that some people can and are able to worship to this music and that it is bringing a lot of people to Christ, which is never a bad thing.

Psalm 71:23
My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you- I, whom you have redeemed.

Jeremiah 31:7
This is what the LORD says: "Sing with joy for Jacob; shout for the foremost of the nations. Make your praises heard, and say, 'O LORD , save your people, the remnant of Israel.'

Matthew 21:9
The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"

Someone should have told these people that a fruit of the Spirit is peace.

Hey,

I'm in a band. The way we see it is music is the method or the vehicle to reach out. The lyrics are there to grab ya. Influence is what matters in the end. Are you selling them on Sex Drugs and Rock & Roll, or are you telling them they are not alone, that there is a better way, that they were created with a purpose in mind regardless of what they were born into.

I never try to memorize lyrics of songs I hear on the radio, but I hear the songs enough that the words stay in my head.

Not everyone likes a good Polka (just for clarification - I'm in a rock band, Pierced ( www.pierced.ca ) (Exodus 21
1"These are the laws that you are to place before them:
2"When you buy a Hebrew slave, he will serve six years. The seventh year he goes free, for nothing. 3If he came in single he leaves single. If he came in married he leaves with his wife. 4If the master gives him a wife and she gave him sons and daughters, the wife and children stay with the master and he leaves by himself. 5But suppose the slave should say, "I love my master and my wife and children--I don't want my freedom,' 6then his master is to bring him before God and to a door or doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl, a sign that he is a slave for life.
)We are pierced as a sign that we choose to serve God), and so if the only music that was "accepted" by the church and deemed to be good was a Polka, we'd be missing out on a lot of great people that God has a plan for.

I'd say make sure the words are pointed enough that people don't have to guess. At the same time, the lyrics need to connect with those that are searching, or don't even know they're searching, by not alienating them. Your music could be their first contact with Christianity, and they could be thanking you for writing that song when you see them in Heaven. They liked the tune, and the words just stuck with them...

Dang... this thread has been around for a long while

what i have to say is this, God created all music, and he loves it all no matter what what it sounds like, so long as it is directed towards him, it is beautiful to his ears, because it was his creation, if somone has been touched by God to go and spread the gospel through hard rock or whatever the genre may be, then i say go for it. this point was made before, but some people just won't listen to the whole nice quiet praise and worship music. THey're going to be more touched by somthing they have a taste for, and God knows this, he knows his Children better than anyone else, and knows how they will be most effectivly reached. And this in some cases is through music that others just might not like.

the elderly more conservative might absolutly hate pod or some of these other christian whatever genre bands, but fans of this type of music might cringe at the sound of gospel music. I know that i thank God every day for creating bands with a message and a sound that can relate to, because it's what i'm into, and what really inspires me personally.

God gives us talents. I scream in a Christian band. He gave me that talent of screaming. Not you can't tell me not to use my talent cause other people with that talent do some bad stuff. No God wants me to scream for him. I wear a mohawk. I pray, read my bible, go to church anytime i can. But i am sinning because i scream Godly things in an effort to glorify his name even thouhg i am not worthy to scream to him??? No, God wants me to praise him the way i want to. Get what i am saying?

An atheist or an extreme anti Christ
People and to those Christian people who view christian rapcore nu metal music and all sorts of rock and metal music are of the devil. You dont know Christ the maker of all music, God doesn't say its bad to make nu metal rapcore music with christian themes , no God doesn't say its bad , He is the maker of all music, if you don' t recognize it, you don't know Christ either. It just your selfish appetite to say nu metal and rapcore is of the devil no God does not say that. I can sense that rapcore and nu metal music is the vast ,variety, and huge avenue of music in the mainstreem and secular industry which till now , is still ignored and un aceptable to christians culture and music industries, there are thousands and even millions of christian rapcore nu metal bands out that turn away from their faith, they are potential, talented, skilled and has a firery faith in their own way of evangelism and spreading the word of God, but they were being criticize and persecuted and ignored and left unsupported, which lead out to discouragement they dont even get popularity. God says "Excel in everything you do.

They need that , imagine if we are pushing and encouraging suporting all of the frontliner ministers , the christian artists (specially, rapcore and nu ketal and metal and rock genres , we will enjoy a bunch of positive uplifting encouraging real life related christian music out there and more and more bands were not be able to be afraid preaching Jesus on their music, albums, demos, concerts and ep's . its time for us to go out to our shelves. Be open minded. Look in two sides. Suport a christian artists now, in any genres nu metal rapcore rap metal metal rock all sorts of genre. Imagine why we love listening to secular nu metal rapcore bands like deftones, linkin park and limp bizkit and ignoring criticizing the christian bands who make positive music rather than them. ?

So, I see from a number of different threads (and from life in general) that people are quick to question the 'Christianity' of bands like POD, Thousand Foot Krutch, Demon Hunter, Haste the Day, underOATH, bands like that. (If you haven't heard them, they're on Purevolume...this isn't a plug, I promise)

I reckon that this is basically due to the style of the music - hardcore, screamo, rapcore, stuff like that. People react against it - which is the point, as the music is confrontational and agressive.

So here's the question: Is that general style of music inherently 'un-Christian'?

I don't know the answer, but my points for consideration are as follows...

- One of the Fruits of the Spirit is 'peace' - this music is the precise opposite to peacefulness...but then, making a whip and driving people out of the Temple wasn't a peaceful act.

- Conservative tradition...some people still object to Rock'n'Roll as being 'of the devil'.

- God created beauty, and this music isn't beautiful - at least, not in the conventional sense.

So I'm left thinking, well, maybe you can have any style of music you want, but the spirit behind the band has to be Godly - but then maybe the spirit behind the music is basically ungodly and so can't be redeemed...but then perhaps it just needs to be reclaimed form Satan, but then...

You see my question? Thoughts appreciated,
James
They are closed minded people
