I just don't know how to react to this story on Calvin college, which I will no longer back up now. You are entitled to your own opinion and yes there are some stuff that I believe Bush is doing wrong, but he was put their by God, whom we are all called to honour, and we have no right to try and stop the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES to come and speak at your college. Not everyone can be fully satisfied all the time and must learn to deal with some things in life.

On the flip side, I believe we do have that right.

i agree 100% with you. God did put him in that position for some purpose and i believe we need to let God's work play out through our president. Yes, people need to learn to get over somethings and move on in life, no one gets everything they have all ways wanted.

For as long as the Church has been around, there have been questions about how far one supports a leader. Certainly, it is our duty to oppose policies instituted by an abusive government.

soooo....did God put Clinton in office too? I believe God gave us the best gift of all. the thing that seperates us from the angels, and thats free will. i do not believe that the major difference between humans and angels would be taken away so easily from us. When I pray, I always ask that Gods will be done. Because I am asking for it I know he will do what is best for me. I trust him to do the right thing, even if its not what i want. I do not know if Bush being in office is Gods will, I voted for Bush, but i would not dare to say that I know what God wants.

Actually, yes God did put Clinton into office, for what reason I have yet to figure out that reason.

God didn't put Clinton or Bush or any other US president in office. The people did that.

The US isn't a theocracy nor is it communist. It is a republic. The people vote, and God, who gave people free will, doesn't get intangled with petty secular elections.

And for you to know, patriontist isn't just blind acceptance to the "leader" (to which the US president-alone isn't here; he is checked by both Congress and the Supreme Court) but, rather, to the essence and nature of the country. And whether arch-Republicans like it or not, if they dare complain about people voicing their opinions against Bush, they had better not have done so when Clinton was in office. And the same goes for arch-Democrats when the tables turn.

This is one reason why I'm a moderate.

I don't particularly like Bush; I wish he weren't elected. I don't like how he is handling my future social security and I'll be darned before I accept his "plan" on "education." Yet quite frankly, I don't like everything that Kerry stood for either. What I am loyal to is the essence of the Constitution and for what it stands for, not some nincompoop in office, be he or she Republican, Democrat, or anything else for that matter.

But were are to not to take that disagreement and direspect the guy...

It depends on what you mean by disrespect. As Christians, we hold all human life sacred, and taking a life is an incredibly serious matter. In that sense, we respect life. But most people don't infer, from that, that human life should not be taken under any circumstances.

Again, if Bush is an abusive, oppressive leader, then we have no choice but to oppose his abusive, oppressive policies.

Your post is so refreshing! I agree completely. Except for having voted for Kerry.

Actually, I watched his speech on TV this morning and there was nothing "mixed" about it. He was recieved very warmly and his speech was interupted by applause several times.

From the posted article: "But anti-Bush ads that ran in the local newspaper, protests outside the event and buttons worn on graduates' robes made clear that many students and faculty objected to Bush's policies."

"The letter followed an earlier ad by students, alumni and faculty who said they were troubled that Bush was to be the commencement speaker."

"Some graduating students wore buttons that said 'God is not a Democrat or a Republican.'"
A few dozen protesters gathered outside, carrying signs that read, 'Conservatives and moderates reject extremism' and 'Thou shalt not torture.'"

*shudder* This is the type of thinking from Bush supporters that scares me. They think that God placed Bush in the White House and so every decision he makes is the Will of God, etc., etc., etc. God, who is above politics, did not place Bush in the White House, and it is not wrong to protest a President or his (and hopefully in the future HER) policies. Like another poster said the people put the President in office. Are we as self-absorbed to think that God cares about who wins an election?

Speaking about rights, we do have the right to gather peacefully and protest anybody we want, and we also have the freedom of press and speech. This is not my opinion, it is a fact that is enshrined into our Constitution. The ironic thing about your ignorant opinion is that I highly doubt that President Bush himself (who took an oath to uphold the Constitution) would agree with you. He might not agree with the protesters, but he probably smiles when he sees them because he is seeing our freedom at work.
