Hello all! I am in the process of worldbuilding, more specifically, I am drawing out a map of the world I'm creating. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good book or website that deals with Calligraphy, for I am trying to decide on what style of lettering to use. (Something to give my map an 'ancient' feel)

All suggestions are very much appreciated!!

This particular project is being done on graph paper, by hand. Hopefully the lines on the graph paper will help.

Hmm.....on computer. I wonder if i could type names/titles out on computer with some of the fonts that are offered then copy them over by hand onto my map? Any suggestions?

One note: I've never had any calligraphy training, although I am a fair artist with pens/pencils and charcoals and can pick up techinques fairly quickly. (if it matters....)

If you are looking for fonts, www.wantedfonts.com has some "old style" fonts in their "gothic" category. (This site is cool due to its variety of (free) fonts, but is horrid due to its overwhelming number of popup ads.)

This website seems to have some decent tools for learning how to do calligraphy. I did calligraphy a long time ago and the thing that seems to stick with me that it takes a bit of practice to be any good at it.

Good luck with your map!
