  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Maybe you were using components that are not compatible?
I hear what you are saying, but no, as a qualified system builder I only use AMD recommended mainboards, power supplies and fans as found at http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_869_4348,00.html

I'm very fussy what I build with, as that's the only way I can be assured to make money. My time is worth something to me, as it no doubt is to you, and it's lost income wasting time replacing fried or faulty CPU's and incompatible mainboards. :)

It's interesting how different people have different results.
I know a guy over at the MSI forums who also builds and sells systems and he is a big fan of AMD processors. This guy has built hundreds of systems and knows his stuff too, but like I said everyone has their favorites for whatever reason.

Ok, I have updated my specs a bit...

Does this motherboard/CPU combo make sense?

I believe they are compatible and use Hyper Threading technology....drool.

That sounds good Defens :) I would prefer an Asus board to an Intel board though. Intel boards give you absolutely zero options in the BIOS for tweaking if you should so desire.

However, it sounds like it will be a smoking system regardless. :)

I can vouch for Radeon cards. I recently bought a Radeon 9700 Pro and it far exceeeded all my expectations. The only thing that could even make it show any noticeable slowing was Morrowind on max everything.

Anyone who has played that game knows that max everything is insanely beautiful and will absolutely kill any system that tries to run it.

All the benchmarks I have seen show the 9700 barely showing any difference from the 9800 except in a few benchmark tests. I don't think the difference is worth the price right now.
