I'd go with an ATI Radeon 9800 instead of the GeForce... but that's just me.

I'll second the recommendation of ATI over GeForce. I use a GeForce now and it's ok but I've heard ATI is a little bit better. Both are good though.

You might want to consider a "special edition" WD hard drive. They're faster with 8mb buffers, though that may not matter much to you.

I agree with that. I tossed my Gforce in the pile and slaped in the Radeon card.

Building is the only way to go. I've hand build more systems than I can count, for myself and for others. The only systems that ever tempt me to buy is by Alien Ware of course.

BTW what cooling system ar you going to use? And will it be air/vaq or liquid cooling?

I don't know about that. I've got a Dell and it does everything I need it to do. I considered building but I couldn't do it for what I could get the Dell for. (I did get a bit of a deal on it)

Isn't liquid cooling a little over the top for the average user? It's been my understanding that only major OC'ers needed the liquid cooling

Don't waste your $ on liquid cooling, it's not needed unless you over clock everything...

Go with the Radeon 9800 Pro too. I'd wait anothing month, Intel is releasing 3.2GHz CPU's with 1MB and 2MB cache.

I concur with the Radeon stomping the nVIDIA. Also, the SE WD hdd is the only way to go. Their reg hdd are junk. Besides, only the SE hdd have 3 year warranty, the only hdd in the business that does.

I would get an Antec True Power 400 Watt minimum.

B) Nothing is optimized to run on it anyways
C) True 64 bit Itaniums with an optimized 64 bit windows for servers have been out for a couple of years.

It smoked both the fastest Mac and the fastest Intel chips on the market in recent tests.

I personally would just buy an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ for a mere $90 and OC it .

Heh.. I have a lot to say about tests and who presents them, but I don't want to get into it here...

As for what to buy, I've had enough bad luck with AMD. I'll just stick to something I know will always work

Maybe you were using components that are not compatible?
The MSI K72N Delta-ILSR mobo along with the Athlon XP CPU and Mushkin memory are extremely reliable.
