  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ramen Noodles... you're suppose to eat them???????

Ok, you'll laugh at this one... but....
Ramen noodles also make GREAT fire starters - really!!!

Whenever we are at the family cabin and start to build our fire, we stack 3 packages of Ramen Noodles at the base and then place our fire wood around it. We light the packages and it starts the fire going!!! It really works!! They burn FOREVER!!!

I suppose the carbohydrates in the noodles provide a long burning fuel. Do you take them out of the packages? I can't imagine that the fumes produced by the burning plastic would be very good for anyone.

No, I don't take them out of the plastic package. The outside packaging burns up instantly... no fumes to worry about.

Also, do they burn better with or without the seasoning? jk

That is a great question - thanks!! Actually, we wondered as well and tested this. We were curious to see if our campsite would smell of Beef, Chicken, Shrimp etc. We were also worred that if we set-off a scent of "meat" that perhaps our campsite would attrach some unwelcome visitors (bears, racoons, etc) I am happy to report that based on my "scientific research", no such worries are necessary. There was no smell from the flavor packets and I did not recieve any creatures visiting.

Happy fire building and - happy camping to all!!

Did you ever try eating them dry without boiling them. I did last time I went backpacking. I would have to say pretty tastey!!!

When a big group from our church goes hiking on the Appalachian Trail every suumer, our 2 main leaders Tiny and Coach (trail names, you have to love them, I'm Twiggy, pm me if you want the story) just throw a bunch of gas on the kindling and then toss a match. Ah, good times. I'm thinking about thru hiking one summer.

LOL. I've heard flamethrowers can be very effective in starting camp fires also, but 1) are rather cumbersome to hike with 2) rather difficult get past a fire ranger and 3) tend to turn a campfire into a forest fire. However, if you have a canoe and are by a lake or river, that might make for some fond memories and great Kodak moments.
