I just checked through the pages and didn't notice a thread on Buffy The Vampire Slayer (BTVS or BVS). I know the show is over but the all seasons are now on DVD. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the show, if they had any.

I think one of my favorite episodes is a two parter second season called The Becoming when Angel changes and the curse is lifted. It was completely unexpected.

I didnt start watching buffy til the middle of the last season.
But have since pretty much seen them all.. at least twice some 3 or 4 times lol, in reruns.

The angel/buffy plot was good, and IMO, turning angel evil after they sleep together is an excellent subliminal abstence message...

I also think david B (angel) has this great kinda vibe to him in teh character.

I just wish there had been more of a faith based point of view in fighting evil..

Heatherondo, I think the same thing, especially in Seasons 6 and 7. I found it interesting in the episode where Buffy finds out that Spike got his soul back, that Spike retreats to a church, appears to have yelled up to God (when he says "I thought it was what you wanted" to Buffy then says it again, but looks up this time), and then lies on the cross and allows himself to be burned (as if saying that he is ashamed of what he has done, and feels that he need to be cleansed, or "burned" free of his sin). Though, I was disappointed that in a later episode in the Season, a newly risen vampire is talking about the power he now has and even goes so far as to say "I am even more powerful than Him (in reference to God, presumably)!" and then asks Buffy if she has seen any evidence that God does exist. She replies, " Nothing concrete", after of course she spent months in heaven in the previous Season!! Perhaps the comment was meant to be sarcastic, but I too thought on many occasions that with all the references they made to hell, the devil, demons etc and placed those characters in a world where they faced those things everyday, that they would in turn be lead to believe God existed, and would be spiritual. I dunno, makes sense in my mind. It does feel like only half the story is in that show, that they were heading in that direction, then changed their minds, or simply just didn't know where to go as far the "ultimate" goodness is concerned.

I think they implied more of a Godly message and it shows up if you look for it. I do wish they would have taken a more concrete :) stand on it.

I always thought it was interesting that Anya had to choose to be a vengence demon, that she wasn't made that way. She was once human and then choose evil(she choose it twice actually. The first time before, because they show a "flashback" back episode on it, and second after Xander left her at the alter)

I think i like this show alot because, one of my strongest spiritual gifts is descerning spirits/descernment. and there is alot of spiritual warfare in that.

( the bookthis present darkness really just like opened my eyes and spoke to me in ways that i just cant out into words.)

and in essence buffy is a spiritual warrior, just a commercialized worldly version.

I am a BIG Buffy and Angel fan :)

I find after having watched them on DVD I have more appreciation for the story arcs and some of the symbolisms. Its a series that has a lot of depth and is very well written. I love the dialogue. And I have a huge crush on Xander too ;)

I watched it for a couple seasons. Basically until the last season when it moved to UPN. However I watched Angel for almost every episode, basically missing sporadically after they introduced his son as a grown man and totally destroyed Cordelia's character. They got back on track for the final season and had some great shows there. One that was especially amazing - "Thank You" when Cordelia wakes from her coma. The twist at the end actually brought a tear to my eye. The whole time you wanted Cordy and Angel to finally get together (which was totally destroyed by Angel's son... what a stupid storyline) and then bam! That episode happens. It was so awesome and I thought it was probably the best episode in the series.

I really didn't start watching Buffy until about the 3rd season because before then that series scared me :p I really liked Riley and Adam - now *that* was a cool storyline.

Her sister...Dawn... what a terrible character. She just couldn't act and basically made the plotlines too corny. Especially Buffy's "death". How retarded was that?

Yeah Dawn did get annoying at times (I HATE that "Get out, Get out, Get out!" scream of hers that they used twice, after she found out who she was in season five and then in season six in the epiosde when then they are all stuck in the house and can't leave), but for the most part, teenagers are just that way (I know I was) :) Though I think it was a great idea, and loved the ending they were able to provide, the potentials got on my nerves.

Oh yeah the potentials got on my nerves also. I think Kennedy got on my nerves the worst. She always spoke without really thinking about what she was saying. Like when she thought Willow was stronger and better than Buffy because of her magic. Then when they did the spell to send Buffy back to the men who "made" the first slayer, and the spell knocked her against the wall, and she had to see it for what it really was, she was afraid of Willow for a little bit. I never wanted Angel and Cordelia to get together I never thought she was really his type (considering Darla, and Buffy). I thought the thing between Connor and Cordelia was horrible, that should have never happened. The last season of Angel was great! I loved the one with "puppet Angel" that was too funny, and the "Thank You":)

Yes Kennedy was an awful character!!! She just came into the whole thing and acted like she had been there all along, and knew everything. She had NO idea what Buffy, Xander and Willow had been through, and why Willow had to be cautious of her magic.

Season three of Angel was just absolute garbage as far as I'm concerned!! I haven't seen the last season (have been watching them on DVD and not TV), but yeah, the whole Angel and Cordelia thing didn't really seem right (certainly didn't want them together like I wanted Angel with Buffy, or even Buffy with Spike for that matter). Then Cordelia and Connor was definitely something I didn't need to see

What did you guys think of season six and seven of Buffy? Those are generally thought of as the worst Buffy seasons, though, as mentioned before, season seven is one of my faves! I can't decide which of seasons four, five and six I like the most / least. They all have their high and low points. I think season four could have been a great one (Hush is one of the better episodes of the entire series), but I personally found the whole Initiative thing a bit silly, and frankly, Adam was forgettable. With season five, I actually really liked Glory, but most of the other story arches of that season, were the same as the villain from season four, forgettable.

I’m not sure what to think of season six. I really did not like the end with Willow, and it did have the most “duds” of any other season, but in-between those “duds” I liked the story. I thought the villains being “regular” people was an interesting twist, and the musical was very enjoyable. I also liked that season’s take on addictions, in the form of Willow’s addiction to magic, and Buffy’s to Spike. Just goes to show, how dangerous giving into temptation / physical urges and taking the “easy way out” can be.

Hush is one of my all time favs, that one and the musical;) !!! I loved the fact that they took a chance and did something totally different with the shows. I even have the musical on CD (shhhh......lol) I still giggle in Hush when Giles has the projector and is filling them in on the Gentlemen, and Anya is eating popcorn like she is at the movies!!!! He draws Buffy kinda wide and she gets slightly offended that whole scene makes me giggle. :D

I really enjoyed parts of all the seasons. I think yes, some are forgettable. I loved the episode when Glory had Spike captive and was torchering him, and he said something about her hair and her lopsided butt and she was all self doubting, that was funny. I was torn when Buffy died that season, but I was glad she went out a sacrificing hero. The addiction story lines I found great also. It is odd that some people only think of addiction as drugs or alcohol. When truthfully a person can be addicted to almost anything.

I remember one time in my walk with God I was becoming burnt out. All I kept thinking was I need a rest, I need a break, and of course temptation was starting to look like a big chocolate bar when a woman has pms. Then I was watching an episode of Buffy(sorry I don't remember the exact one) and she was talking about how she just really longed to be a "normal" girl, but how she realized she was a slayer for life, that is what she is called to do, and it just spoke to my heart and changed my perspective.

One of the story lines on Angel I found moving was what they did with Darla's character. They did her whole background, how she was a prostitute before she met the master, and then became an evil vampire, and eventually turned Angel into the same. They went on their evil, demented killing spree, however when she was carrying Connor she changed. Connor had a soul, so Darla had one temporarily. How she became so repentive of what she had done. She realized that once Connor was born that she would return to her evil state, that she killed herself so that Connor would have a decent chance in the world. I found that very moving. In the whole symbolic way of once we realize how sinful we are we repent and crucify sinful nature (not by literal suicide) for the sake our salvation and wining the lost.

sorry to ramble so much :sorry:
