  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It wasn't as blasphemos as I thought it would be, but it still was. It had far to much sexual content, and the directors obviously only knew what they did of Christianity from a movie about Jesus.

A fantastic film, and a great conversation starter with non-christians. I invited friends round to watch it when I got the DVD, and for the next few hours we talked about nothing but God's relationship with his people, and the power of prayer. The director Tom Shadyac, professes to be a bible believing Christian (read an interview with him here: http://www.christiananswers.net/spotlight/movies/2003/brucealmighty-interview.html) and I think the film answers a lot of questions for non-believers.

Bruce: How do you make someone love you without changing free will?
God: Welcome to my world.

God: No matter how filthy something gets, you can always clean it right up.

When I first saw the trailers for it, I was afraid it was going to be bad. Kinda scary too if you think about it--Jim Carrey with the power of God?! When I did watch it, I really liked it. I thought that it totally redeemed itself. I also heard on the news that the phone number given out in the movie actually belonged to a church and they got a lot of calls. They said they used the opportunity to talk to people about God. I don't know if that's true but I can't find anything disputing it on the hoax finder websites. Does anyone know for sure?

i was afraid it was gonna be kinda blasphemous, too. but i was glad they didn't go "below the belt" and go after "stereotypical" christians.

but ultimately i didn't like it, 'cause i didn't think it was that funny (i don't like most of jim carrey's comedy, anyway).
