I have an HP desktop and run windows vista
IE always acted up so I switched to Fire Fox
That ran good until recently when I noticed it took forever to load pages and CF always got hung up.
For a change I went over to google chrome; that cleared everything up.
I had to get a WYSIWYG add on, but occasionally I still notice a few missing images (like smilies in posts on CF)
The other glitch is with composing.... the cursor jumps from mid sentence to the beginning, so I must edit my post.
Also, the spacing can be off when it posts and I must go back and fiddle with it until it posts right.
Is this just a glitch...can it be fixed?
People have concerns about security...is it a big concern?
I am wondering if I should go back to FF
Or is there yet another better browser out there?
Any feed back is appreciated
Please keep it simple so *I* can compute
I would start by disabling addons in FF.
And the first thing I would nuke would be Java (not javascript).
You can use a short cut for testing by starting FF in Safe Mode,
available via the FF start menu group.
If IE is acting up I would a) make sure you're running IE9,
and if necessary do a browser Reset, available via control panel/internet options/ advanced tab.
I don't know what would cause the cursor to jump,
but again I would disable java for all browsers.
I am concerned about Chrome and privacy.
Another browser you can try is Opera
Oh yes...I have heard of Opera as well.
I'll give FF another try with your suggestions to start
Thanks so much for your input!
I have used IE8 since it first became available for public use
It boasted being more-secure than any other browser in the graph
[included, ALL of the top names]
I liked the tool that allowed me to accept First Party Cookies and Session Cookies
but that I could block Third Party Cookies
Third Party Cookies, attach themselves from ads on the site you are visiting
whether or not you hover over them / click on them
iow: are loaded when you access the site page
I joined SPYNET Community from the moment I installed IE8 _in the Advanced Membership Group
~meaning, my computer communicated verbose reports, whenever it experienced difficulties
To be 'fair', to Microsoft, I experienced no problems with use of IE8,
until, I upgraded my .Net framework 3 to .Net framework 3.5....
whereafter, I found that having several different sites [in tabs]
and working between them, it gave me problems with 'a script' [unidentified]
causing IE8 to run slow/ hang /crash [whichever]
I had been 'alerted' to the possibility
of Adobe Flash Player, storing LARGE cookies on my computer
with, an innuendo;
that the information stored in them, could bypass my privacy settings
I installed Mozilla Firefox...
~on the condition, that it did not update itself automatically
but instead, informed me, whenever an update became available
for me to choose, whether I wished to install it
Free Software, is infamous for loading spyware /malware
[nothing is free and, I do mean 'nothing']
I found, that the problem I had with IE8 [handling several different sites]
always occurred, with, the 'same' site, in a tab 'FACEBOOK'
My bank installed a security software in my computer
It prevents 'keyloggers' from reading/recording my keyboard input
and reports upon any software in my computer [MIB_man in browser]
that tries to access the internet, without instruction from me
It works with IE8 and Firefox and it also protects the sites I visit
~looking for hidden code, that doesn't behave, quite, as expected
It warns me, if I have inadvertently entered a password that I use elsewhere
and gives me the opportunity to redress any such error before submission
I have reservations regarding Privacy with use of Google Chrome
and, I have steered well-clear of it, because of 'what I have read'
[Even the 'small-print' is very cleverly written to completely exonerate the publisher]
I haven't tried 'Opera', because I am a great believer, in 'THE TRIED AND TESTED'
and to attempt to fix a system, before it is proven to be 'broken' is a hill, too steep
When having 'open-connections', to two sites [at the same time]
say, CF and Facebook [?] I find Firefox, is much better able
to manage 'all scripts' in a stable manner
Perhaps, because of the way that I have it configured [settings]
with, the only ADD-ON, that I have installed
being the 'thumbnail expander' [magnifier]
The use of 'good online practices', will surely assist any antivirus/ anti-malware
that we have onboard
eg:
don't download software, from anywhere but, the original publisher
sun.com for Java
adobe.com for Flash
Microsoft Update for windows updates... etc
and:
Don't follow LINKS to another site, not even from your most trusted forums
unless you trust, the person posting it
and:
Don't upload the
ASK Toolbar when offered
DITTO the
MYWEBSEARCH software
These are RAM GREEDY
and DO NOT ASK YOU if they can access their base
when they then pass information about your online behavior that is not in your best interest
They carry out their 'mission' while you WAIT to gain access to your computer
They are very difficult to get rid of ... [?]
Uninstalling, will be followed by a re-install that you didn't authorize [?]
I had to threaten the MyWebSearch with legal proceedings, in order
to get them to inform me 'where' I could find and delete all of their program data
just saying
