  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Chewy cocoa brownies

You will need:
1 2/3 cups white sugar
¾ cup butter or margarine, melted
2 tablespoons water
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/3 cups flour
¾ unsweetened cocoa
½ teaspoon baking power(I use 2 tsp I like my brownies fat & chewy)
¼ teaspoon salt

Preheat the oven to 350 F (according to the converter that’s 175 C, but don’t take my word for it)

Mix Sugar, butter and water in a large bowl. Add eggs and water and stir. In separate bowl mix flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Stir the two mixtures together. Pour into 13x9 greased baking pan and bake for 18-25 minutes. The easiest way to tell if done is to stick tip of knife into middle and if it comes out clean it’s done. Start checking at 18 minutes all ovens are different.

If batter seems overly thick add about 2 tablespoons milk to thin it out. If you do remember it’ll take 2-3 minutes longer to bake.

This recipe was taken from the back of the nestle cocoa and modified by me.

Just yesterday I found this excellent sounding brownie mix recipe thanks to leeza who posted this on the "Tried and True/Heirloom Recipes" of the Kitchen Link on June 29, 1998. I plan to make it this weekend.

Applesauce Spice Brownies

1/2 cup crisco shortening (or any shortening)
1 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup applesauce
2 oz unsweetened Chocolate, melted (you can buy bars of it)
1tsp vanilla
1 cup Flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Frosting/Glaze
3/4 cup powdered sugar, sift it if you can
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
Milk (add one tsp at a time, until frosting is of thin spreading consistancy)

Mix the shortening and sugar together until well blended, and then add the eggs one at a time. Stir in the applesauce, vanilla and melted chocolate. In a separate bowl, stir flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon together. Then slowly add that to the other mixture, until it's a creamy blend. Stir in walnuts. Bake in a 13x9 inch baking dish on 350 for 22-25 minutes.

Remove from oven. Let set until brownies are still warm, but pan is not hot. Drizzle the glaze over the top with a fork. Serve.
