  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I just got 25 bucks for kindle books.

any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna check for 'knowing God', MAYBE an NLT Bible. (I ardy have NASB, and I NEVER study from NLT, but I've always found it extremely useful for phrases/terminology I can't understand from personal study in NASB)

I've already spent 80 bucks on my own ACTUAL ESV Study Bible. and to be perfectly honest.... I find the notes extremely unhelpful....

like... they explain the obvious verses, but ANYTIME there's a difficult verse to understand they NEVER have a note for it. The only really useful things I like about it are the book intros, articles, maps, charts, and illustrations. I actually prefer the MacArthur notes....

I want a good complete commentary... but it looks like the only sell them by the book...

I'd REALLY want John Gill's commentary (I've always found it really helpful)

and I'd kinda like a good book on church history?

try and get Gills commentary on a cdrom , it.s very expensive to buy otherwise .

The best commentaries I have read are Pink , Gill and Calvin. then Matthew Henry , Hendrickson , Spurgeon etc

I'm sure a young, internet savy fellow like yourself is aware that there are about a million bajillion FREE ebooks and plenty of good PDFs online, that will work on the kindle. Right? :D

edited for comedic content; I don't know if there any free "brooks" on the web, but I'll keep my eyes open

....... maybe a book on hermeneutics would be more helpful in your study of Scripture.

oh ya, I'm quite aware of that. But they have to be public domain. I've been using project Gutenberg which has a buttload of free public domain books. And right now PDF's actually don't work very well on the kindle at all.... How the kindle essentially views them is as a picture of each page and it shows a slideshow of all the pages, which doesn't work because they print is too small and you can't change that with PDF's on the kindle.

and I haven't been able to find any really good Christian books (with the exception of the book edie suggested) for free.

not saying that I'm in any way sufficient, but I've actually already had a class in hermeneutics last year and I've read a good deal on hermeneutics already, and I think sometimes I've been distracted by reading ABOUT reading the Bible more sometimes where it chokes out my time reading the Bible.

Bummer on the PDFs, what formats work well on the Kindle?
