Are there any parents out there that have experienced kids with broken bones? My 6 year old daughter broke her leg at church last Wednesday night (playing with her friends...just one of those accidental things). She fractured it in 2 places near her lower shin. Anyway, she's got a cast on that goes up to her thigh (it's purple, so she's relatively happy with it).
My question is what can I do to make this time not a horrible experience for her?
How do I combat the itching...especially in places impossible for her to reach?
How do I compensate for her not being able to go swimming (we're going to a convention later this week and our hotel has a really cool pool that she's been looking forward to swimming in for a while now)?
How can I get her to start using her crutches? And how can I encourage her to try walking on it (she has a walking cast and shoe)?
How do I make her feel better when she feels upset that all she can do is sit around while her sister goes out to play?
Anyway, advice would be very much appreciated. This is horrible...I hate not being able to do much of anything to make her feel better. At least she's not in very much pain, but it's still a really tough time for her.
Thanks guys.

I really appreciate that.
