  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw a headline recently online that claimed something like 80% of the American public was somewhat repulsed by this movie (or some such claim). Although I know very little about this movie, it does seem interesting that the other headlines claim it is getting all sorts of nominations and awards. I guess it is not the American public that decides the value of a movie.

Yes, it was nominated for several Oscars. It's just another example of liberal Hollywood embracing this crap. I guarantee you if the movie was based on a man and woman, no one would have every heard of it, it would have been nominated for zero awards, much less would it have had screen time at the theatres.

Just my $.02...

I went to see it because I like to see a nominated movies every so often. But I can honestly say it wasn't good at all. I really like artsy-deep movies but it was bad. It had almost no dialoge and it wasn't romantic. It was sad. There was one pretty graphic scene involving the two actors but you didn't see anything you just knew what they were doing. The scenery was gorgeous. But that was it. And I am pretty open minded.

I read the storyline review, and it just didn't appeal to me.

Judging from the plot, and the accolades it's gotten despite that plot, I'd say it's a pointed example of how the moviemakers' morals are finally being potrayed as "mainstream".

It's sad, and disgusting.

No, I won't see it. I really really like Heath Ledger too. I was disappointed in him taking this role. Some say it's just a movie...I think when you're in these types of movies or watch them, you are putting your stamp of approval on them. Anyway, just my opinion.

I saw it, excellent movie, good literary interpretation, just excruciatingly sad and lonely feeling throughout the whole movie. It will never be a favorite of mine, but neither would any other tragic romance be a favorite.

Just a note.. it doesn't "promote" anything.. really movies like The Family Stone have more scenarios portraying positive gay relationships than Brokeback Mountain and this is the first movie I've seen Heath Ledger in where he proved he could act. After Lords of Dogtown, Brother's Grimm and Casanova all seen last year along with Brokeback Mountain I'd have to say his Brokeback Mountain performance was the best of the lot.

I grew up in a small ranching town of 2,500 or so. Two gay cowboys is just something that my mind can't comprehend. I'm sure homosexuality has no bias towards cowboys, but dang, couldn't they come up with two gay dentists or something!!

:D Well... they're really shepherds.....

One of my dentists is gay.. maybe I can make a movie about him...

(actually considering he's originally from a country where being gay can earn a person a death sentence..... it might actually make for an interesting film)
