I've noticed a huge stir over Brokeback Mountain.
People say, "well, it's about homosexual cowboys, so, I'm not going to go see it."
But I don't think it's fair to call this a Gay Cowboy Movie.
Here's what it isn't:
1. Soft porn. It's not a bom-chicka wowwow kind of scene. There is a kissing scene, which is actually pretty sad, and a very discreet sex scene that is less than I've seen on TV.
2. A movie simply about two gay cowboys. It's not like one meets the other, they move in, open a gay disco and bed and breakfast.
What it is:
1. A movie about two men who realize that they love each other, and struggle with those feelings. It is good at capturing the struggles someone who is gay is going through or went through. If you want to understand how it isn't "chosen", you will be able to struggle with them as you watch it.
2. A movie that necessarily condones homosexuality.
Because the two men deny a future with one another, a lot of people suffer in the wake.
3. A movie that condemns homosexuality. It seems to be a lesson about suppression passion and love and feelings more than homosexuality itself.
