  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw it last night and I enjoyed it immensely. It was a lot better than I thought it'd be. There wasn't any PC grandstanding at all, and the sexuality was actually very subdued and not all that graphic (IMO). I'd urge everyone to see it.

And just so this doesn't get moved to the Entertainment section, here's something that some of you will agree with, and some will not!

Former homosexual and wife say Beware of 'Brokeback Mountain'

"The Marlboro Man has succumbed to the homosexual agenda and John Wayne must be turning over in his grave," said Irene Bennett, co-host of Straight Talk Radio.

Straight Talk Radio is the very first daily national radio program strictly focusing on the issue of homosexuality and the homosexual agenda, featuring a former homosexual man and his wife as the hosts.

"This movie sends a very dangerous message to America's youth - and especially married couples with a struggling spouse. I just spoke with a married man on the telephone who is contemplating leaving his wife and children. He's says he's gay - and Brokeback Mountain has influenced his decision. I spent a lot of time with this man telling him it's not what they're making it out to be. I know - I was there for 11 years." Stephen continued, "Believe me, we can sadly expect to see a lot more men like former Governor Jim McGreevy of New Jersey not only resigning from their jobs, but from their wives, children and families."

Awesome, I am interested in seeing it, but King Kong is first on my list right now.

HA! America's youth is already quite tolerant of gays.

A movie is going to make people leave their spouses? Give me a break. If people are gay, they are gay. End of story. Accept it, live it, be honest with your spouse (of whatever gender).

I have little interest in seeing the movie, but I certainly have no objections to the subject matter itself.

I suspect that someone who wants to leave his wife and children will be looking for encouragement (or "signs" supporting what he really wants to do) just about anywhere he can find it. That is, simply viewing that movie (or any gay-positive movie or other entertainment medium) isn't going to make a straight married man suddenly "go gay" unless that was what he wanted to do all along, and was just looking for external confirmation.

I always thought the Marlboro man was gay LOL

So what did Jim McGreevy see in the movies that made him gay?

If Brokeback Mountain made this guy want to leave his family what are all the straight guys seeing at the movies that makes them go out and leave their wives for other women?

I always thought John Wayne was gay?

Anyway, isn't it funny how a movie about gay cowboys is awful because it could cause someone to come out of the closet and actually admit to being a homosexual, but if someone got saved as the result of sitting through "The Passion of the Christ", Mel Gibson is given every accolade under the sun just short of being deified by the Christian community?

I can't wait to see the movie. I think it looks very dramatic. Boy, I sure hope I don't get any crazy ideas and suddenly choose to become a lesbian while watching it! My fiance should would be a sad man.

I think it sounds boring, but I'll have to make sure my husband doesn't watch it, because it might turn him gay.

according to plugged in online you shouldn't watch it either 'cause it might make you suspicious your husband's "old fashioned bonding exercises"

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]A tangential downside to the film is that it could have the effect of making wives suspicious of husbands who have good male friends. After watching this movie, old-fashioned male bonding exercises such as fishing, hunting and camping feel like nothing more than weak excuses for nefarious "hook ups."

The thing that makes me angry about this movie is that for my friend and I to see it we have to drive 2 hours to the 'gay side' of a neighboring city. Thanks alot, Bible Belt!! It's going to cost us more in gas to get there than it will to buy the tickets and candy.

It appears the plot addresses the complexities of the central relationship which may at least cause some who react toward same gender love with hatred to think again and perhaps limit the "it's all about lust" fallacy the hatemongers put forth.
