Here are a few that my town has spewed from its underbelly and the songs they were best known for:

7) The Hekawis - "Don't Smoke Marijuana In The Band"
8) New World - "Living Next Door To Alice/Tom Tom Turnaround"
9) SixftHick - "Daddy's Home"
10) Razar - "Shut Down Countdown"
11) Redzone - "Jackie"
12) Riptides - "Crush"
13) Screaming Tribesmen (yes they were from Brisbane, but moved to Melbourne)
14) Died Pretty - "Harness Up" (all originally from Brisbane but formed in Sydney)
15) Bee Gees - "Staying Alive"
16) Saints - "This Perfect Day/I'm Stranded"
17) Go Betweens - "The Streets Of Your Town"
18) Isis - "Rap Against Rape"
19) D-wizz - "Unknown Cravings"
20) Silver Studs - "Happy Days"

I remember how popular "Truly Madly Deeply" was, but I've always thought the best song on that album was either "Tears Of Pearls" or "A Thousand Words" (although "I Want You" runs very close as well).

As for Powderfinger, the only song I've ever heard of theirs played on the radio in my area was "My Happiness". I found a couple more of their songs earlier this year that I really liked, though.

Other than that, haven't heard of any of the other bands ('cept for the Bee Gees, but I didn't have any need to comment on them). I'm interested, though.

OK. Regurgitator started out as an avante-garde funk-metal band in 1995 with "Tu-Plang" and got a deal with Warner Music until 2002 when their contract ran out and they are now an independant band. 'Polyester Girl' sounds a little bit like The Jackson 5's 'Blame It On The Boogie' but has more wimpier vocals than Michael Jackson. They had a cult hit in America on Sub-Pop records about an allegorical act of [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] to make it big in the industry. One of their most far out songs is called "This Is God Talking To You From Outer Space".

Custard started in 1990 and sounded a bit like Talking Heads and 10cc.

Razar and The Saints were two Brisbane punk bands, in fact the latter hit it big in the UK with "This Perfect Day" before anybody in Australia really bothered with them. http://www.trouserpress.com

George (or george as it's more PC to title them) - much media hype with this band over the last four years. They are fronted by classically trained singer Katie Noonan whose mother Maggie is also a well-known opera singer who released a mother-daughter CD unit this year with some jazz standards. www.george.net

New World were a MOR band who were the second act from Brisbane to hit in the UK and produced by Nambour born legendary rock producer Mike Chapman and manager Nicky Chinn. Chapman became a world-respected name for working with 70's rock idols Sweet, Mud, Racey, Suzi Quatro, Smokie, Blondie, Divinyls and in the early 90's Baby Animals. http://www.doremi.co.uk

D-wizz is a shameless self-promoting Brisbane maverick who has produced a wealth of demo recordings inspired by 80's acts like The Smiths, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, Duran Duran, Wham!, 808 State, Rick Astley, Soft Cell and Pet Shop Boys. www.d-wizz.com

Silver Studs were sort of like Australia's answer to Sha-Na-Na and Mud by covering 50's classics interspersed with dancing and comedy. However, they never made it overseas.

Bee Gees are about the only ones there that have done it for me, in fact im listening to Stayin' Alive right now .

I started losing interest in them after 'Superstraight'. Have you seen the video for "I Wanna Be A Nudist"? It's fantastic, though not what the viewer might expect to see. I used to work at the place where they filmed the video - six years later and it's STILL standing empty.
