Ancient Hassid in the making
Shalom Leah!Marjorie said:I struggled for a long time with my gnostic spirituality and Yahshua's Jewishness and eventually found an answer in the Orthodox Church, which is-- even if not all its members realize it-- very Jewish in its theological, ecclesiological, and liturgical origins without being blindsighted by the cosmic consequences of the Incarnation.
My joy in reading this list is only overcome by the pleasure of finding a real life Jewish believer in Yeshua! Welcome achoti.

I too have attended an Orthodox service while vacationing in Cos. I was deeply impressed by the fact that they read from the "scroll" of the Gospels, just like they read the Torah in the synagogue. Many things seemed similar. I do believe we see a little bit of what Jewish life must have been in the Diaspora in Greece when we attend an Orthodox service. The seating/participation was also very similar. The theology of the Orthodox church was greatly shaped by the theology of Diaspora Judaism...too bad that it died out (the Romans managed to wipe out all of Alexandrian Jewry...which killed off the cultural center of the Greek-speaking Diaspora). The Orthodox church are their heirs, and such Diaspora sages as Philo of Alexandria deeply influenced Greek Orthodox theology. Bless you achoti, as you are part of the rebirth of Jewish presence in your church. Never forget your Jewish roots and traditions...infuse your church with them!
