"Thou shalt not kill"
But God said here to kill your best friend if he worships a different God. Is it a contradiction?

That is the God I seek.
Do you seek what God really is, or do you decide what God really is by your own standards?

My best friend is different than a lot of people's best friends, in that he is a real friend. I would rot in hell before I betrayed him.
Very admirable.

I think this kill-your-Best-Friend thing is stretching credulity.

But, in the (U.S.) Civil War, numerous times close relatives (and Best Friends) came upon one another (on opposite sides), and were supposed to kill the other one. And, frequently they DID kill those people.

That being said, you can find 1000s of people who have done JUST what you asked:
There are MANY people who have MURDERED best friends and close family members on the DIRECT request of Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately (for them), later on, after they explained to the Police that they had performed this "Holy" task for Jesus Christ, they were locked up in the Nut Ward (for the rest of their Life).

So, did Jesus Christ actually ask each of these people to perform these Murders?
Who knows?

So, R3quiem, if you REALLY want to talk to people who have done this, just call over to a local Sanitarium.
Just because Society calls these people Insane, doesn't mean that they aren't the MOST Faithful of the followers of Jesus Christ.

I agree with this.

Someone posted some story on these forums somewhere today about a child who got stabbed to death by his uncle "to get the demons out".

Very admirable.

We are not under the law, nor is anyone today. The reference above was to those under the law, the Hebrews and the gentiles who would join themselves to the hebrew nation. So, no, there is no contradiction.

As this post was to another, I'll answer the 2nd question for me, God is who I understand him to be, as far as my understanding and walk, and this comes through reading of him in the bible. None of us have a complete picture of God for God didn't reveal himself complete, but gave us what we need to know.

So, when I read God is good, I know God is good. That is my understanding, that is just one part, but is an example of how we come to understand who God is.

Comes by reading about him, and also with prayer life, talking and relationship as we get to know Him, and all becomes our understanding of who God is.

On the standards, no I do not determine who God is by my standards, rather thru the bible is how I understand who God is in as much as I can know and according to my walk with God, and as to how much I grasp of what I read.

Here Tapero help me understand this verse.

If we are not under the law anymore and the law does not apply why does Jesus say in Matthew 5:17-19 in the Beatitudes.

"Truly Truly I say to you, heaven and Earth shall pass away, before one letter of the law is taken away, for I have come to fullfill the law, and not to abolish the Law."

Clearly Jesus Christ is saying he is not here to abolish the law, he wants these laws carried out.

The consequence of the law is death and we still die so obviously Jesus has not fullfilled the law. Perhaps he is going to do that when heaven and Earth pass away, like Revalations suggest will happen when Jesus comes back to the Earth.

So you see, Matthew 5:17-19 clearly shows we cannot discard the old testament I am sad to say. If we really are going to get technical with the bible.

So what christians really need to do is, look at what the liberal christians believe bring back the liberal theology section, so people can help christianity.

It needs to evolve to where people can read Leviticus 21:9 and Matthew 5:17-19 and know no all loving being wrote this stuff. It was written by men and we need a liberal interpretation of Christianity where holy communion symbolizes the body and blood of Jesus Christ and is not actually the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

It is the twenty first century, it needs to improve a little bit.

I knew this answer was going to come up by someone sooner or later.

Generally when I ask a question like this, I include the clause "If you lived in OT times..." so that people can't use this excuse/answer.
