But... "moderate" can also mean that a person does have a very strong view about something _but_ is willing to have honest dialogue with others. For example, as much as I am pro-Life, I'm willing to admit that there is some truth to the claim made by pro-choicers that legislation is used to hurt women (especially poor women). So, while my voting record is pro-Life and while I've worked with Crisis Pregnancy Centers in the past, I do *my* part to get along with pro-choicers and help us both to understand the points the other is making. Does that make me a moderate on the issue?

I'm not sure if that makes you a moderate or not. But it means you actually have the RIGHT approach to the pro-life movement which makes me want to sing at the top of my lungs.

We can build bridges, but that doesn't mean that liberals and conservatives will cross them rather than burn them! As far as being a wedge, don't let yourself be used as a pawn by liberals or conservatives to gang up on the other side. It takes courage, but the way to avoid being a wedge is to criticize liberals and conservatives to their face instead of attacking the other side behind their back. You may get some hostility, but at least you'll get some respect.
