From an article in Vatican Insider today, entitled : Brexit : Churches call for continued unity with Europe :
'While the Brexit campaign is in full swing and three weeks before Britain is to vote in the referendum, the Anglican, Catholic and Evangelical Churches as well as leaders of the Muslim and Jewish communities have urged careful reflection and responsibility, in a letter published by The Observer newspaper and reprinted by French newspaper La Vie. They claim it is important to continue working towards unity in the “Old Continent”: “Faith is about integration and building bridges, not about isolation and erecting barriers,” the letter says.'
This last sentence strikes me as the nub of the controversy. It seems to me that the church leaders and those of the Jewish and Muslim communities don't seem to realise that the 'integration', 'building of bridges', 'rejection of isolation' and 'erecting of barriers', must imperatively start here, at home, in the UK, between the same politicians who favour the EU as it currently exists and the interests and requirements and needs of the people who elected them.
The mere fact that the former favour the TTIP could not characterise more graphically the enormity of the crime, the sin, should make it an open and shut case. It would be adoption, a recrudescence of the pre-war fascism, corporatism, that so took the fancy of the Tories, and eventually was to bedevil this country among the monied folk, prior to WWII. It's not a subtle matter only discernible to economists and the like, but something all too, straightforward and simple for the layman to understand. Any meta-government of Europe that would facilitate our 2-nation Tories' adoption of their dream of fascism, reinitiated by Milton Friedman and Thatcher, will take us on a simple and straight path to slavery : Route 1. If agribusinesses wish to poison us, deny us labelling to enable us to reject frankenfoods, the very government of the country would lay itself open to prosecution and hefty fines. They, Big Pharma, Big 'everything' would be in the box seat. Everything, including the NHS would be privatised without any possible recourse, then or in the future.
It seems most unwise, nightmarish, to even contemplate our national government being subjected to the authority of a pan-European government, itself effectively subject to the authority of that most dysfunctional and anarchic hegemon, the US, and favouring such a horrendous national and continental fate.
If the TTIP fails to be passed, who is to say it would not be contemplated again in the future by the EU ?
