  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Because you can still draw air into your lungs' airspaces by just moving your diaphragm? You're still reducing the pressure in them, so air will still flow into your lungs.

It's hardly the most efficient way of breathing, but it's still breathing.

Yeah, you can draw air into your lungs by contracting your diaphragm , but it isn't breathing using your stomach. The lungs still do all the work of taking in air and distributing the oxygen.

Sure, I suspect I'm interpreting the rather vague language in the OP somewhat. I'm assuming by belly breathing he means moving the diaphragm primarily, and forcing the intercostals to stay comparatively still compared to normal.

Well I interpreted the other way :p but I guess your interpretation makes more sense than mine.

It is possible to breathe with your belly for a hour insteand of your lungs, how does medical science exlain it!?
This phenomenon isn't quite what you describe. Your lungs inflate and deflate by the expansion and contraction of your ribcage. Your ribcage is always doing the work, but you're puffing out and pulling in your belly to make it look like your chest is stationary, and your breath is coming in and out from your belly.

In reality, this isn't the case. It's still the lungs, and it's still the ribcage. You are, I think, tricking yourself.

If you are talking about a practice called abdominal breathing you misunderstand it. What you do is pretend you are breathing from your abdomin. You push it out and in et cetter. (I can explain how to do this if your interested. If you don't know what your doing you can pass out.) Anyways what you are actually doing is breathing from the lower part of your lungs. It is essentially a very deep breathing exercise. It is quite relaxing.
