#1 - 3 months - I wanted to go longer but I couldn't figure out how to make it work while I attended class.

#2 - 6 or 7 months (I think) - She completely lost interest. I didn't realize it at the time but it may have had something to do with me being pregnant and bf.

#3 - I tried for 4 days but we had some issues with sucking and how much dairy I ate effected him severely.

I give lots of credit to all of you ladies who did it or plan to for a year or more.

I bf my son for about 9 mo. He completely weaned himself! I had planned on it for a year and he just suddenly started only wanting to nurse first thing in am and before bed..then stopped altogether.

I got EXTREEM mastitus with both my girls and had to be hospitalized both times. Not a very plesent experience. I would have liked to have breastfed for 9 months though.

I usually start trying to gently move toward weaning around 2 years. It took longer with my first to completely wean than with his younger brother.

15 months. It seemed that my supply was low or tasted funny due to pregnancy, plus we had problems off and on so I wanted a fresh start with the new baby, so it just seemed like the right time to quit.

I had several threads open in tabs in my browser. I was reading the "When did you start to show?" thread and I was flipping around and tried to go back to that thread where I read that someone apparently started showing at "15 months."

Took me a second to realize I'd landed on this thread instead!!!

My daughter was premature and had trouble latching on. So I pumped for about 6 weeks. I would have continued pumping but I guess pumping just isn't the same as actually breast feeding and as the weeks progressed I was able to get less and less until the last week few days she was only getting one bottle of breast milk a day.

As for my son, he nursed for about 3 months. I'd have continued with him but he had problems with reflux and I ended up having to get a special formula that he could keep down.

I wanted to go to 12 months with them, but all three weaned themselves.

For those who breastfed their children for several years. What did people seem to think about it? Some people say it is very emotionaly bonding others say it causes too much of an attatchment. I am just wondering.

I think it created a healthy attachment in my daughter. I feel it helped foster a secure, outgoing child.
