• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello,
My name is José and I'm tired of it. I'm hispanic and if it's not José... it's Hector, Juan, Angel, etc. (I know your laughing. ) And if your a latin woman it's Maria, Carmen, etc. You get the idea. I've been wanting to change my common name to a not-so-common name now for years.
Both my mother & father have now past away.
Does anyone believe that I will be committing a SIN if I change my name?
Will I, in fact be breaking the Fifth Commandment? "Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.(Det.5:16 KJV)!"
I want to change the first & the last names.
What do you think?

If you are a Christian, then pray about it.
Decide for yourself if the simple act of changing your name will demean the memory of your parents.

My idea of the Commandment is: Don't sully your family in public.
I think this is a good way to avoid ever tainting your family name.
Just think, if you ever want to turn to robbing banks, the newspapers can report your name, and it will never reflect badly on your parents.

Seriously, I have known people who have changed their names, and I consider it TOTALLY a personal lifestyle choice.
So, become a Pierre or a Conan or a Vito, with my blessing.

And remember, nearly every woman who gets married changes her name (and they aren't worried about it, and neither are her parents).

Go for it...I've had 3 different surnames...my birth name, 1st marriage name and now 2nd marriage name. And my family gave me the first Christian name of ...Anne...but they never called me it, they gave me a nick name which I hate, it was a girls name, but I wanted to use my REAL name, I've struggled for years to get them to call me the name they gave me......no, you change your name if you want to. You're still the person you are...that doesn't change. I think you have shown respect for your parents by waiting till they have died before you did it. I see nothing wrong with it at all......Peter Rabbit...here we come !!! Enjoy....

Hi, bless your heart to worry such. In no way is it a sin to change your name. A sin is wrongdoing, or doing something against a command of God.

God changed peoples name in the bible, and so if He did,
I kind of think that makes it even easier of a choice for you.

Bless your heart for being so tender to the things of God.

You are free to change your name--God has another one for you, anyway!

Revelation 2:17

Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.

No I don't think this would be so. I believe this command is like this one: Love your neighbor as youself. My grandmother's married name was "Smelly"^_^ ...if that name had been passed to me I would have changed it!

But this is just my opinion Jose..have you talked with them about it, how do they feel about it?

I love the name my parents gave me... a strong and beautiful Slavic name. It's very common back in Russia and Belarus, but here it's almost unheard of.

I think as long as you respect and honor your parents as a child with your name, that it doesn't make much difference if you change it as an adult. You can make your own decision if you want to... of course if your parents are upset about this name change, you might consider not doing. Otherwise have fun choosing a new one!! :)

Btw I can't wait to get married so I can have a shorter last name! I have a crazy long Russian last name that's 10 letters long :( My Sweetheart only has 4 in his last name so it would be cool if we got married :p

So what you gonan change your name to?

Armando Espenoza
A woman at work gave me the name and when I first heard it, believe it or not... I knew that was it! I've been looking for a new name for years.
You will not believe this, but that same night I got junk mail. The To: & From: names were... Armando. Weird huh?
"As I'm reading this back, it almost seems made-up!" But it's true & I cannot tell a lie. (I don't need this on my conscious for Judgment day)

Here's what I wanted & why I like it:
1. to keep it Latin,
2. flow with syllables,
3. have power & presence when you say it in spanish,
4. It's got the word, "MAN" in it. (for masculinity)
5. Espenoza reminds me of my mothers name, Esperanza

Thank you ALL for your kind words and advise.
All I have to do now, is see what my Pastor thinks.
He is wise, anointed & connected with God.
And most importantly, discernment from the Holy spirit.
I am blessed in more ways than you can possibly believe when it comes to my pastor, church, life, wife, children, health, joy & my sense of humor.

I'll see what he oops, God has to say about this through him.

Thanks again everyone,
God bless,
José or ... Armando
