Something I've found in my own walk is that Satan often uses a certain trick on us whereby he says: "Yes it is true that you have sinful habits, but you cannot break these overnight. Just moderate your sinful appetites instead."

It is necessary to try to give up sins 'cold turkey'. If you give sin any quarter whatsoever, it has already one. That is all it takes for sin to come in and possess you.
