  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Wisdom not lacking in of itself, why is it necessary to add bible verse's to everything you say. Do you think that people are more inclined to change their belief's if you insert (Verse here)

If you actually study the ministry of Jesus objectively, he didn't insert (Verse here) at every given moment. There was a time and place for inserting (Verse here) and he did it like a master, something I like to emulate when I talk to people.

But all this verse hockey has gone way too far.

It is a way to show that a concept is God's idea; not just that of another person. Human ideas/wisdom can be helpful for simple concerns, but they are worthless in conveying those of the Spirit.

Jesus and the New Testament writers quoted their Bible [the Old Testament] regularly.

It's a problem when we post too much at once and a bunch of quoted verses. But it does help the poster and others when verses are searched then posted for Biblical context. I do agree in the long term it'd help all if we actually took the weightier parts to heart. We'd be forced to rely less on finger pointing here and there to prove our beliefs to the tiniest details. Instead go directly to the point leading in the correct direction and leave actual seeking to them.

The other thing that I began running into around here long ago is that if I say something, particularly on a debate thread, w/o using a Scripture reference or two to back up the points I'm making (or even the questions I'm asking), the first thing I'm often asked is why, and the next thing I'm asked is to provide the missing references ;)

So I started to include them regularly.

BTW, you're correct, the Lord, as well the Apostles at times, used the phrase, "it is written" (or something close to it), throughout the Gospels and the NT.
