Boycott ABC

With freedom comes responsibility. They have the freedom to say what they wish (within the boundaries established by the Supreme Court concerning the first ammendment), BUT they must also be willing to accept the responsibility and the consequences for the things that they say.
first of all it is a show. a documentary. there are thousands of documentaries that go against Jesus and God and the church are you and you fundies going to boycott every television broadcast station that shows them?

As long as they're willing to accept the responsibility and consequences of the opinions they voice.
what consequences? they are making a show. it isnt the end of the world.

Sure, why not? American colonists boycotted a whole tea company because of one measley little act. This is how common people who do not have the ability to broadcast a counter-message voice their opinion
how about the christian channel? using your logic atheists can boycott the christian channels because it goes against their beliefs. if a televangelist says that evolution is **** and an atheist hears about it they wouldnt do anything so why should you?

I think this was uncalled for and rude; I believe an apology in order
you think it is, therefore no one is getting an apology.

This was a VERY good display of Christian love, I am sure Jesus is smiling down on you right now.
just like Jesus calling people fools? how about hypocrites. drunkards. aduleterers. thieves. all these do not show love yet Jesus said them.

You place yourself in the same category as Jesus!? You feel you have as much right to judge as Him?! How bold of you!

Well, I don't watch tv. I think that there are far better ways of getting the information that I need to know about, such as news and weather, and any time that I might spend watching television shows can be better spent doing other things :)

And yes, it is a show. It was a nationwide broadcast. There is a great amount of responsibility that comes with the power to push out information across the nation. They need to be ready to accept both that responsibility and the consequences that come with it.

what consequences? they are making a show. it isnt the end of the world.
I never said it was the end of the world :). You're overreacting and putting words in other peoples' mouths. They need to be prepared to accept that there are actions people can take if they didn't like the show, such as boycotting the station. There are also other responsibilities and consequences, but since they don't directly apply (aside from any spiritual or moral applications/consequences), I won't list them now.

how about the christian channel? using your logic atheists can boycott the christian channels because it goes against their beliefs.
You're exactly right!

if a televangelist says that evolution is **** and an atheist hears about it they wouldnt do anything so why should you?
Since when does what other people do become the sole basis for any decision that I might make? Atheists haven't become Christians either, but I don't base that decision off of what they do.

you think it is, therefore no one is getting an apology.
That's your perogative, but I wish you would. :(

There's a difference between Christ and you - He is God and can read minds and see hearts. Christ said exactly what needed to be said when it needed to be said. Can you read minds or see the intents of a man's heart?

Jesus Christ said all things in order that the Father might be glorified and the people to whom He was speaking might repent and turn again to God - I don't see that reasoning behind the things that you've said.

According to the preacher I just asked literally a minute ago, Jesus was human. So, yes.

Except he had long hair and I don't.

If your preacher told you that you have as much right to judge as Jesus, I'd get a new preacher my friend.

EDIT: Just saw that you were trying to be cute. Your little gray icon went unoticed..

Well, not really.

I see it as two choices. Either Jesus was human and suffered and was like all of us, or he was "above" humanity, and his sacrifice didn't mean nearly as much. It's something that confused me as a Catholic, so it's not influenced by my atheism.

The irritation to me was the show was biased in one direction. I don't mind the liberal or skeptic view on ABC, but I wish the network also interviewed scholars that have researched and support the view that the all of the Bible is the inspired Word of God, that thinking, knowledgeable people do believe it. This would present a balanced show.

Agreed...any publicity is good publicity.

You can't please everyone.
I work in christian radio and get complains from people who tell us we don't praise the Lord enough.

I tell them to pray God gives us 25 hours in a day so we can meet there request.

Actually, by the time of the Tea Party there had been a whole series of acts and actions on the part of Parliament and the King. I suppse, given the ongoing complaints by some Christians about commercial television, that the analogy could still stand though.

Jesus would have accepted homosexuals! It's not that He would have given them the OK to be married or anything but He never would have turned them away. How well do you know Jesus?

You're saying that he would accept them if they repented, but that's not what the show meant. The guy said that Paul would turn away a homosexual and Jesus wouldn't. Where does he get that? From his own opinion and 1 Cor 6:9-11 "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators...nor homosexuals...will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." Now then, it is obvious that he meant Paul would turn away a NON-REPENTANT homosexual and Jesus would not, which is a lie. Both would turn away a NON-REPENTANT homosexual, but neither would turn away a penitent.

What I took from the show is that they tried to paint Paul in the light that 1. That Paul was writing these his letters out of his own ideas and beliefs along with the writers of the Gospels

The show never claimed this.... And some things that Paul wrote were his own ideas (and he says so).

2. He claimed he was the best apostle .

Paul does have a section where he demonstrates that he is a better Jew than the people attacking him....

Instead of expressing that, the seemed to be trying to show there was this short, bald radical "Jesus freak" teaching something totally contrary to what the other major Christian leaders were teaching,

While the Jerusalem Christians preached circumcision, Paul opposed that. He did teach something contrary to other Christian leaders.

What he does is mix in truth with lies, and it makes out God to be a liar. Same thing he did with Eve. (God) Eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, you will die (spritually.) (satan) You shall surely not die (physical death) but your eyes will be opened and you will be like God.

I would just like to point out that the story never claims Satan was in the garden with Eve. In the story it is simply the serpent, like in many ethnic aetiologies. The serpent doesn't become Satan until later interpreters make it so....

I was at the laundromat and they had a tv on stating that this program would be on later that night. By the time I arrived home, the show was beginning. I didn't get to sit down and watch it for the three hours, but from what I did watch of it, I can understand people's point of view. As for boycotting, well, I hardly watch tv as it is. I wouldn't have even known it was on or turned on the tv if I hadn't been doing laundry.

On a positive note, my best friend in GA called me last night. She is someone who is wrestling with religion as she doesn't know what to believe. She watched it and called me with some questions. So if it's causing her to inquire more about Jesus, I would say that's a good thing.
