  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A lot of women get stopped up because of the high level of iron in prenatal vitamins. Some vitamins even come with a stool softner these days in order to help that. Taking milk of magnesia should help if you are having any problems.

This is always an issue for me with pregnancy (if fact, this is how I knew I was pg this time). LOTS and LOTS of water - then MORE water. Also, I started eating bran flakes for breakfast (yuck). They seemed to help.
Ask your doctor about changing prenatals, that may be it. I know mine isn't caused by the vitamins because it started before I was one them.
Have you given up caffeine?

I had this problem and prune juice (4oz) diluted 1/2 and 1/2 with water cleared up my problems. It's a pretty quick fix for me (a couple hours) so I'd recommend taking it in the AM if you don't work so you have the house to yourself.. or in the PM so you dont' have to worry at work if your working.

Psyillium husk is a natrual fiber (found in metamucil or similar products) that will help. Don't take a stool softner or other "drugs" with out talking to a dr. or pharmacist who knows you are pregnant and how far along you are.

Hope all works out for you... also.. hope this isn't TMI, but don't "push" if you can help it when having a bm. That will lead to hemmorides or rectal bleeding (possibly both) in a heart beat.

I've found that I have to have a bowl of fibre rich cereal in the morning and in the evening so I won't be constipated. Last week I switched cereal to normal cornflakes and oh gosh did I suffer, back on the high fibre stuff now.

I don't think it is a good idea to overdo the fibre when you are pregnant. Your bowels are sluggish in pregnancy for a reason - it's natural. The muscles are much more relaxed, like other muscles in your body. Loading up with fibre is not going to stimulate them any more - but it can give you indigestion, stomachache and thirst, as it sits around in your gut.

I think it is best just to eat a normal healthy diet - which will include a reasonable amount of fibre anyway. If you are worried about constipation, then more water is probably the most comfortable option.

Linnis, have you talked to your doctor?

If this has been going on for a month you need to find something that will work that is safe for you and the baby.

The Prune juice worked for me (thank goodness, because I was in loads of pain and was scared of it). If that or some other natural fiber (as you have been doing) doesn't work, you have to get the Dr.'s okay to do anything else.

If you don't have an appointment for awhile, just call in and ask to speak to a nurse.

Hugs,
Carina

I think your doing the right things, Linnus. I had to go the prune juice route though I added in apples and a ton of other fruit to mask the taste and it worked awesome.
Otherwise my doc said he was going to have to go the enma route I was in so much pain. That scared me inti adding prunes.

Oh, I haven't forgotten about that list btw. I just still haven't gotten rid of the morning sickness yet. When I can I will scan it and send it.

Hope all you ladies are feelin better :)
