  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm so embarassed...

You're right, I guess I am doing this for my own simplicity and it is a bad habit.

I never stopped to think that the bottles had to be gone already since they still give them to the kids in her class at her daycare before the afternoon nap.

She's also still addicted to having her pacifier while she's asleep, and that's something I'm currently trying to break out of her habit.

Her crib is convertable, so I may change it up into the final 'bed' stage when I get home tonight.

It's hard... I honestly feel like I'm doing this whole parenting thing by myself and I try to act like I got it all down-packed.

I'm sorry! You're such an attentive father. Most dads don't even give this stuff a second thought. You're doing great!

One thing at a time. You may be very surprised at how she gives up the bottle when you give her a cup. My kids were very easy. No argument. Sometimes I think we don't give them enough credit. My son still uses his pacifier to go to sleep and I'm just waiting for him to give it up. I know my daughter just threw hers in the garbage one day (she was about 18 months I think).

Oh, and when you do stop the bottle at night, make sure they don't give it to her at daycare.

As for the milk affecting her teeth, would it be a better plan for me to give her the warm milk in a sippy cup say... 20 minutes before bed, as opposed to giving it to her in her bed?

That my friend sounds like an awesome idea! That's what we did with Andie when she first went off the bottle. We'd incorporate milk & a graham cracker or something for her to snack on while we read her bedtime stories. After that, it was off to brush her teeth, then into bed. Nothing after the teeth were brushed, only water.

We give a bottle about a half an hour before bedtime. You could also start by giving a snack involving something like a graham cracker about a half an hour before bed, and switching the bottle to water which wouldn't cause tooth decay, until she is used to the snack, then take away the water bottle.

What do you mean you are doing this by yourself?

It's hard to say.

You know how most women will complain that their husbands aren't involved enough when it comes to helping out with the kids?

Well, it's kinda the reverse situation for me.

But I don't want to hijack the thread, so I'll leave it there. It's hard to talk about.
