How bout "Having your Attention on your attention"?

Its interesting that boredom is associated with personal emptiness or lack of activity (even in Kierkegaard)

But maybe its like not being able to fall asleep BECAUSE you're thinking about falling asleep.

Aren't those the same thing? :p

Yeah, meditating isn't boring because you are supposed to be aware, but not 'think'. Boredom only seems to come when you realize and think about the fact that you are wanting to do something, but are not.

The spiritual void.... If E = mc2 then we can divide and conclude that...

m (mass) = Energy (E/c2)

And there are three varieties....

1. Natural - Mass
2. Intelligence - Our mind can produce a spiritual light
3. Spiritual - E (motivation, energy, warmth, love) / c2 (faith,hope, charity, joy)

When I experienced God on a spiritual basis I felt that same stuff spiritually that went into the creation of the universe, and it delighted my soul. If I may present a journey towards a greater Christian spiritual E/c2 it would be in the following...

A Path to Caritas (Latin for love in the purest form)... Things that cannot be taught for virtue is not knowledge!

1. Hope - All things begin with a hope
2. Faith - Motivation is a child of faith and hope
3. Charis - Grace - A powerful neighbor of caritas
4. Dynamos - Greek for virtue and motivation
5. Eucharisteo - Much grace... Gratitude
6. Charisomai - Well favored - A lucky kind of feeling
7. Euchrestos - Greek for profitable
8. Chairo - Greek for cheer - "Cheerio mate!"
9. Chara - Greek for joy
10. Chrestotes - An 'Aunt Bee' kind of Goodness
11. Charisma - Heavenly Graciousness
12. Chrisma - Heavenly Anointing - The Holy Grail!
---------------------------------------------------------

So... There is a spiritual light and a spiritual energy. And there are also forces of darkness and emptiness as well... Which would be the opposite of E/c2.

The opposite of E would be z, or absolute zero
The opposite of c would be d, or darkness...

Natural z/d - Emptiness... Space
Intellectual z/d - Emptiness... No thought
Spiritual z/d.... Which would be the opposite of E/c2 as defined...

Spiritual z, absolute zero... Laziness, apathy, a spiritual absolute zero, hatred
Spiritual d, darkness... Fear, depression, greed, sorrow

---------------------------------------------------------

And then we have that which is not E/c2, or z/d...

1. Mysticism
2. Arrogance (ego)
3. The flesh

I have heard that it is hard to discern the flesh from the devil, as they are so akin to one another. But I will say this, that Mysticism, ego, and the flesh are not true E/c2, therefore there may be a spiritual light in this activity, but because these are not true form, they are lacking in the proper spiritual energies, whose ends are normally cold.

---------------------------------------------------------

So boredom is a result of the spiritual z/d...

Natural z/d - Emptiness... Space
Intellectual z/d - Emptiness... No thought
Spiritual z/d.... Which would be the opposite of E/c2 as defined...

Motivation is the way out of boredom...

Boredom could be a a what the Catholics call a "sin of omission", because we ought to be doing something more constructive with our time. The human is "forged" by evolution to make productive use of time, just as we by nature think and and daydream rather than have blank minds - bacause this instinctive set up helps us survive etc. It would be a sin, because a sin would be to "miss the mark" of life in its fullest, to borrow another Catholic term. In the proverbs Wisdom says "my words bring life". Boredom is a lack of inner life due to lack of appropriate engagement either mentally or behaviourally.

My dad used to say, "if you're bored, its because you're boring."

And in my dreams, I'm extremely boring

And in my friendships I'm... I'm apparently so boring, my friends all bail on me eventually.

But boredom engages something I think. It doesn't lend itself to an opposite quite well enough to get a good definition by the comparison, and in that sense (only in that sense) it does seem like boredom is a "spiritual" thing - in the sense that it eludes (I guess by its "nature")

So boring

What is the opposite of boredom?
