• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am boarder line ADD. Today I found it really difficult to focus on my work. When I was in the 5th grade, I did take a test for ADD, and came out border line.

Its hard to concentrate in school when my friends are winding me up.
Have you considered going to the Dr with your symptoms,, there are plenty of meds that can help you focus and calm down a bit (without you "feeling the medication)... Pray about it and go with what God leads you to do,, It sure has helped me!! God is so good!! We don't have to be ashamed or suffer with something without doing anything about it... Just like those with high blood pressure,, diabetes,, we have add or adhd,, so,, we find it out and God fixes it through a Dr.. love in Jesus,, Faye

If you are leary of meds...there is another thing that coupld help and it doesn't cost to try.

Sometimes all we need is a little boost expecially those that are borderline...it sounds a little kindergardenish, but it works...we need to get our brain juices going. Try doing something active before you need to sit down to focus. Do something that requires resistance on your muscles...like lifting semi heavy boxes, horseplaying with a friend, lifting weights, etc. This extra work helps to get the blood flowing and essential stuff to the brain to get it working more efficiently.

The other thing they are finding out for many ADDers is that deep pressure helps. Try setting something heavy on your lap while you do your "homework" or whatever it is you are trying to focus on.

For me, I have Asperger's Syndrome and as a result struggle alot with the ADD aspect of it. We are experimenting with different meds to find a combination that works, but the thing that has the biggest difference is getting a weighted blanket. And it the process I have learned a great deal about sensory issues and resulting therapies. And experts are finding that this deep pressure is also very effective for kids with ADD...it really seems to help them sit down and focus for longer periods of time.

Let me know if you want more information on this and I will love to share it with anyone that is interested.
