I'm not sure "nice" is the word you're looking for. Prisons are very effective and employ many of the same methods you list but I would never think to describe a prison as "nice".

I also don't like the idea of our country taking on the appearance of a prison from the outside but I guess if keeping people from ever wanting to come here is the goal, that's one way to do it.

As someone else said, If you go one step further after getting Mexico to pay for a southern wall and then get Canada to pay for a northern wall, the rest of us will chip in for the lid

I meant it would be nice if the guards had a little help from some of the electronic detection gadgets.

The goal is to keep unwanted illegal ones out. There will always be hundreds of thousands of people wanting to come here each year no matter what the wall or fence looks like.

And tell us how many were payed for by the neighbouring country? The issue during the election was not so much the wall(a significant number of democrats, inc. Hillary previously supported some form of wall) but Trumps second line of his policy “And Mexico will pay for it”

Irrelevant. Trump campaigned on the promise that he would build a wall and Mexico would pay for it. Imagine if the democrats had campaigned on universal healthcare and Canada would pay for it.

Opposing a policy that makes the financing dependant on another country, Mexico, is wholly reasonable.

Well what you can deliver always depends on what you can get passed by Congress and the Senate. In the case of the wall, Trumps promise that Mexico would pay for it, was far more absurd since while it was within the power of congress and the senate to fulfill Obama’s promises, no one should make promises that another country will fund your wall.

Trump's promises so far have been beneficial for most so I'll give him a pass on the "Mexico-pay-for-wall" promise.

You are aware that airplanes have already been invented, right?

A wall might keep some from crossing. But since a sizeable number of unauthorized residents came here legally in the first place, a wall is essentially meaningless. Estimates are as many as almost half to nearly two thirds of all unauthorized residents have overstayed their visas, meaning they came here legally and simply didn't leave when their visa expired. A wall can't keep people from coming legally and overstaying their visa.
