So did you follow the commandment to build a succah this year? Please share your building materials and construction. Also what you used to decorate it with. I was looking forward to building our own this year but because of selling the house we just couldn't do it, so we have spent two nights in the congregational one ( an hour away) so far this week and I am hoping to spend a little time tomorrow night in it as well as once again have our Erev Shabbath dinner in there on Friday as well. I can really feel the presence and pleasure of the L-rd when I am in there,

You?

shalom and shalom,

My wife and I have had our own sukkah every year for the last 3 years....
except this year.

Unfortunately, this year we were out of town at the beginning of sukkot. So I wasn't able to construct one, and even if I was able to, we weren't able to stay in it.

Anyway, we do have some pictures of last year's sukkah. It was the worst sukkah I ever made too... lol. I didn't get started on building it until an hour and a half before Shabbat that year, so I couldn't put a lot of work into it. The pictures from our previous sukkot are on a hard drive that won't boot up anymore... so I think those pictures might be lost permenantly. *sighs*

But at least I can share with you some pictures of last years...

The first picture is taken from the inside looking up towards the roof of the sukkah. Halachically, the sukkah is supposed to be thatchy so that you can see the stars. This gives one a connection to heaven, and lets us realize how our place here on earth is but a temporary dwelling. Heaven is our true home.

The second picture shows the lulav on the ground in front of the sukkah (you can see it in the very very bottom right corner poking up in the picture), some husks of corn (which were used to give it a festive harvest feeling... another halachic requirement), and of course our sleeping bags on the ground which you can see through the third (and open) side of the sukkah.

Shalom!
yafet.

p.s. sorry the second picture is so dark.

I love it!!!! It looks great to me, then of course I do love trees so much, the leaves, the bark, the branches the many varietys! Did I tell you I love all the trees the L-rd created? ;)

I tried to lighten your other picture but it would not save it for me and I even went online to see how to open it and it wouldn't let me. I am surprised you could upload it on here.

Toda for sharing Yafet! Definatly next year I am hoping the L-rd will allow me to build one and we will have a mild week so I can spend as much time and sleep in it as well as possible. We even have a camp stove we want to use in there, but never have used it yet.

I think this is where Camping out and roughing it as well as boys wanting to build tree houses came from, you? ;)

Sorry it took so long to answer, Yes I can see it fine, I just wanted to lighten it up for you and couldnt then I came here to reply to your question and my PC shut down. Oy!

We went on Friday to decorate the congregations sukkah which is about 20 X 20 and brought a bag of apples which I strung onto copper wire and wired them to the sides, and wildflowers, gourds grapes and dried preserved autumn leaves as well to the sides. We also cut cedar branches, Mimosa, Wysteria, Forsythia and Dogwood branches til my truck was chock full and threw those on top. Someone else did the corn this year and I was glad since we lost our van back in July and the farmer that we bought them from last year grew soybeans this year!
