I need to read, but I don't really know where to look first!

What would be a good book to read to get a good and thorough explaination about what it is that Lutheranism is about (besides the Bible!)? :)

Also, what authors of Lutheran theology and doctrine would you consider the best/most profitable for reading? Bible study guides? Anything?

Come on now, I can handle it! I need to learn learn learn!

Right now I am reading a biography of Martin Luther (Here I Stand: A Life of Martin Luther - Bainton - an oldie I think), and a book detailing the history of the beginnings of the Protestant reformation... I'm almost done with them and I would like to start looking around for some other things that might be helpful/relevent in my studies.

Thank you!

If you're looking for a good theologically sound Lutheran novel try The Hammer of God.

The Fire and The Staff does a good job at explaining Lutheran theology through the lens of the Lutheran worship service.

Anything by Martin Luther - just type his name in amazon.com (just make sure you don't get a book by Martin Luther King :) )

The Foolishness of God - explains a lot about Luther's apologetics and Lutheran beliefs. It's especially interesting if you want to learn more about how we should deal with defending and spreading our faith to people who aren't Christian.

I've bought all these books through amazon.com and many of the reviews there are helpful.

By the way, many of Luther's sermans and books are on the internet for free as well.
