  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Every Christian should have in his library a copy of:

Imitation of Christ - Thomas A Kempis

Way of Perfection - Theresa of Avila

Dark Night of the Soul - John of the Cross

Mere Christianity - CS Lewis

City of God - St Augustine

Little flowers of St francis

Ortodoxy - GK Chesterton

The Practice of the Presence of God: The Best Rule of Holy Life - Brother Lawrence

The shorter Summa - Thomas Aquinus

Confessions - ST Augustine

A SERIOUS CALL TO A DEVOUT AND HOLY LIFE - William Law

The Single Christian Prayer book if not the full 4 volume Liturgy of the Hours

There are orthers which are great to have but the above are a good start :)

I've read Catholicism and Fundamentalism.  It's awesome.  You're really going to like it.  I haven't read the others, though, but Rome Sweet Home is on my list.

I've read "Rome Sweet Home," "Catholicism and Fundamentalism," "Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic," and "What Catholics Really Believe."

I've ordered "Faith of the Early Fathers" volumes 1-3, and I was REALLY, REALLY hoping I would have received a package from Amazon today!

Rats!

Peace,

Vow, Peace be with you.

Don't hate me, but I ordered those books the day that you sent me your email (I even used your link to Amazon!)... they came yesterday!  I ordered, along with them, "Triumph", which is a history of the Catholic Church that I had heard was good.

A really neat thing about the Early Church Fathers books is that they have a doctinal index.  I can't say that I looked at them much yet because "Triumph" sort of took over once I started leafing through it.  It appears so far to be incredibly well written.

I hate this... I may soon be reading six books at the same time.  And I wonder why I can't recall where I read something!

I hope your books come today!  And thanks again for recommending them to me.

God Bless and stay safe.

To Br Max:

I received a gift certificate from Barnes & Noble for Christmas. On CHRISTMAS DAY I sat at the computer and spent the whole thing...plus a bit more, LOL.

I think I'll go sit on the curb and watch for a mail truck and a UPS truck...

/me calls: "Here, Books! Here, Books!"

Peace be with you,

I have read the five main Scott Hahn books, and to you Souljah, I recommend "Hail, Holy Queen" and "The Lamb's Supper". Also, "Divine Mercy in my Soul, " by Saint Faustina Kowalska (which has full church approval) as well as a video called "Ocean of Mercy." Of course there's more, but this is a good start! I like to mix deep theology books with good devotional books. Also, I started reading "Theology for Beginners" and it was too deep for me, but if you feel like trying it!

Thanx, Luv
Theresa

I have that one, its ok. Didnt go into a lot of detail, but that was just my impression.

It was the one where I got that info about Luther and his toilet habits, but that thread got erased!

All good choices.

We even created a 6 week course using "Catholic for a Reason: Scripture and the Mystery of the Family of God". It was successful.
