My recommendation would be Luke for Everyone by Tom Wright (or any other gospel from his "...for Everyone" series). They are really accessable translations accompanied by accessable, interesting commentaries based on good scholarship but not too technical.

His book Simply Christian is also excellent.

Both published in the UK by SPCK.

Hi, Vicky-- welcome to the forum! I just did a search on "Christian ebooks" and found some free download sites.

Charles Stanley's devotionals come to mind -- he sends them out free, without a lot of harassment for giving back... and he also posts them online.

Everyone enters the faith with different concerns on their mind, and different interests -- I would suggest that you think about what topic is bugging you or intrigues you, and read further in that direction.

(Others will disagree with me on this -- that's okay.)

Glad you're here!

I'd stay away from pop-Christianity books like "Purpose Driven Life" and anything by Joel Osteen or Joyce Meyer and that crowd.

First and foremost, stick with the Bible. Beyond that, I'd reccomend anything by Spurgeon,
Amen - Warren is beginning to show his true colors!

I agree with Charles Stanley whose books are wonderful for learning how to lead a Christian life. Also, Billy Graham's books help grow your faith. And I absolutely LOVE Spurgeon's stuff - it's as timely today as it was in the 1800's!

Billy Graham has said many good things in his lifetime. However, he's notorious for preaching a very "squishy" Gospel, as Todd Friel would say, and is also very ecumenical, even to the point that he's been known to turn converts from false religions back over to the false religion, rather than telling them to find a Bible believing church.

Like I said, Billy has said some wonderful things over the years, but he's also said and done some that should just leave Bible believing Christians shaking their heads, although I do recognize him as a brother in Christ and look forward to meeting him in Heaven, even if he is a little misguided.

And I absolutely LOVE Spurgeon's stuff - it's as timely today as it was in the 1800's!

Spurgeon is wonderful, although his words are sometimes a little hard to digest.

We've become so accustomed to hearing a watered down, pragmatic Gospel, that what he says comes off as being very shocking and even harsh to our modern ears. But, remember, that is the way that the Bible was preached for 2,000 years up until the turn of the 20th century.

Hi, can anyone recommend a good book for those (like me) new to christianity? Something to guide or inspire the first steps on this new path! Thanks!:) :holy:
The Holy BIble ^_^ and a book called the Pilgrim's Progress.

If you haven't start out by reading the Gospel according to John.

The following link will take you to a bunch of free ebooks that are divided by subject. Click on any subject that interests you to see all the ebooks they have for that subject. Being new to Christianity, I would start out with Salvation and then Christian Living. There are alot of ebooks listed for these two subjects.

God bless!

Hi Vicky,
Along with the Bible of course, I would like to encourage you to read about the attributes that are found in God. There are a few books that have helped me in this search.

The Attributes of God.......By A.W. Tozer
Volume 1&2

The Radical Cross........By A.W. Tozor
Living the Passion of Christ

Hope this is of help.
May He bless you in your search.:)

it's hard, but "Tortured for Christ" really helped put the christian life into perspective. you can find it through www.persecution.com from Richard Wurmbrand. also Foxe's Book of Martyrs. its heavy reading, but really does help to see strong faith and endurance even in such hard times, what millions have gone through for faith.

if you sign up for the newsletter at this link from this ministry if you live in the US, they often times have "Tortured for Christ" for free through their newsletter

they also offer "Jesus Freaks" which is more of a collection of testimonies rather than sharing one man's more in-depth trials and testimony as Tortured for Christ does, but the same ministry helps out with the Jesus Freaks book, Jesus Freaks also has some notes from DC Talk in it, sometimes this book is also offered for free through the ministry.

one other book that is helpful and free if you live in the US is Revolution in World Missions, with a missionary ministry in India. www.gfa.org

I really appreciated these books. hope that helps.

"Pilgrim's Progress" by John Bunyan

If a book has been considered to be the second most published in all of human history, there is probably a very good reason. There has never been anything writted that is just like this work, it will stick with you throughout all the days of your own pilgrimage from this world to the next. Written while in prison during 17'th century England by a non-comformist lay preacher.
