YOU THROW AWAY BOOKS?!?! *gasp*

I cannot throw away any book--no matter how horrid that it is. I used to save most and give a few away. But now I'm downsizing everything that I have and will be ebaying quite a bit in the future I think.

For some of you who like to get rid of books, try this: http://www.bookcrossing.com/ .

 THROW THEM AWAY?!?!? *shocked and horrified*

I usually check books out of the library, so I just take them back. :D I'd love to be able to buy every book I wanted on a whim and build a nice library of my own, but I can't do that just yet, I'm still a poor student.

I hate getting rid of a book, and I cou;dn't imagine throwing one away..you mean like in the trash????
One of the arguements that my hubby and I have is over my collection of books. I LOVE books and since we move at least once a year he gets a little peeved at having to load boxes and boxes of books into an U-haul. I really try and be good but I can't help myself..I just have to have them and then can't bear to part with them :sigh:

I never throw books away. For books that I don't need, like academic texts that I feel can't be used as reference books for my career, I sell back to the campus bookstore. (Although, one time there have been several occassions where the bookstore won't buy my books back. Most of them were good reasons, but one of them was clearly BS. )

to me, what's the point of throwing it away if you spent the money on it?
that is for books that i choose to buy, not books that i HAVE to buy such as textbooks.

i'm buying fewer books nowdays due to money constraint, so even if a book happened to fall below expectation, i usually keep it.

Thanks for your views. I think a few of the ones I might have thrown away will be set freee into the wild for the book crossing site! :)

I'm anxiously waiting the day when I find a book and it has the Bookcrossing info in it so I can log it, read it and pass it on. I've done round robins where we've read the book, journaled and passed it to the next person in line. When you're done, with them all, you release the book.

I'm such a geek because that is so much fun to me. :D

I'm finally moving out of my parents' house (got a real job, yaay), and I was amazed at the number of books I had. I think I'm going to sell most on half.com or try to sell them to a used bookstore. I've got 3 huge boxes of books.

I'm parting with most of my star wars novel collection  I had every single one they published up until the year 2000, but alas, something must go :(

uh, rahma! SW books are so hard to find in the libraries here. They do stock them, but the books are all over the place, and newer SW books are way hard to find. I think they don't buy SW books as often now.

bookcrossing? haven't heard of it! sounds quite useful.

I don't throw away books. I'm somewhat particular about what I read, unless I'm desparate for something to occupy me. lol For the most part, I find an author that I love, and begin collecting all of their books. Thankfully, the house that my husband and I are buying has a "spare" bedroom that we will use as a library/music room. We need the room since my husband loves books as much as I do, and has a collection to rival mine. lol We've already begun to line the books in double rows for storage in our bookcases because we are running out of room. At least our daughter will have plenty to read as she gets older. lol
