Currently reading this book authored by Ralph Neighbour. Has anyone here read it? Seems like a good instruction manual on cell groups which is totally foreign to me. Even when I thought of starting a house church ministry it was to be based off a traditional style, or PBD, as he calls it. This book has shook my religious foundation in its information and approach and I like that.

I read the PDF doc introduction to the book, ' Where do we go from here?'
It sounded wonderful. I would take a closer look at Ralph Neighbour teaching resources if I was planning to start a house church, assuming of course the Lord was leading me to do this. Well I read the book and it was a very good read. Very insightful and scriptural it seemed for a man who was well ahead of the trend for house groups, although he refuses to call his model a house church.

The basic element he taught is what he called the cell group, pretty understandable.

Then 5 cells made up one congregations.

Then 5 congregations made up a celebration group.

Each group is overwatched by a Pastor figure, so 5 cell groups are cared for by a Pastor per group, who then fall under the zone Pastor for the congregation they belong too. So as with the celebration group.

The basic group when they come together, do very little in the way of traditional service. They emphasize fellowship over teaching.

He discusses how it's important to just welcome people in, share some refreshments and break the ice amongst the group and newcomers. Then after a period of time, gather everyone and discuss how things had went since the previous meeting, any prayer concerns they have, and at this time if anyone has an insight from Bible study throughout the week they would be allowed to share. He emphasizes it's not just the Pastor's responsibility to teach, and in fact he says the Pastor should do very little of the sort, but should just guard against false doctrine and should be a guide for the group. Then after sharing, the group will split into smaller groups to conduct a time of prayer and intercession.

He says that as larger groups meet; congregations should meet probably 1 time a week and celebration groups should meet 1 time a month if possible, but atleast once a quarter. The larger group settings would be emphasizing prayer and worship, over teaching and sermons. He says a sermon can be preached, but it should be short and concise, not an hour long tirade about one verse of scripture.

Very good read by a man who was way ahead of his time, concerning the American church.

Does sound like a lot of what I like in a cell group.
Sounds like I also agree with him on an hour of preaching on one verse doesn't do much and really tends to be boring. But I would miss sermons that are taught at the college level where a chapter of the Bible its taught from its context and really goes over what the Bible is saying. To me most sermons are like a freshman in high school level and I'd think would be boring to almost everyone older than 18 and probably a lot of 14 y/os.

Greetings Brother,
Ralph Neighbour is a true servant of the Most High for sure. I was raised in a largish main stream church church. Many years ago I woke up with a vision of home churches -- I had never heard of them before.

Shortly afterword I saw a small add for "Where do we go from here" in a magazine. I bought the book and it was exactly what my vision was.

We left the main stream church and we have been doing small group ministry every since. It hasn't been easy but it is the Father's design.

I would be glad to answer any questions if I can.

May Yahweh God bless you as it appears you are in the military. As a Christian that is a tough place to be right now.

I'm now a non-believer in sermons. They are a waste of time and should not be permitted to allow one individual to own the fellowship. Sorry, Pagan Christianity speaks of it in-depth. Out with the old entirely. Unity of Spirit and "everyone hath a song, that is where we should be heading.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water, there is defiantly a place for anointed preachers and teachers of God's word and yes, some of them do it from a lectern or a pulpit.
