I just read Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots by Deborah Feldman . I had no idea that some Hasidic Jews were that uber religious and fanatical.
It just makes me wonder where do you draw the line between religion and cult?
When you practice rules and rituals, where do you draw the line?
I realize that MJs often say they only follow the Bible and not Rabinical Judaism, but that is not accurate. Most of the outward forms that MJs do - yarmulkes and tallits and so many other things are not completely from the Bible, but rather, include the Jewish traditions that have been handed down over the years. And that is fine. I have no problem w/ that. But, where do you draw the line?
