  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I just posted another thread about her, I would highly recommend anything by the author Jean Sasson. All of her books are about how the women are very badly treated. In particular she has written about a Saudi Arabian princess that she befriended. They are also very inspirational though even though some of the stories are very sad. The author has a new book out that I just found out about on the Christian site, Bellaonline, titled 'Princess: More Tears to Cry'. I plan to read it soon. I have recommended several of the author's other books to the ladies at my church and they all agree that they are all so interesting and in-depth. We have even begun a prayer group for the women in the Middle East who have such little, or no rights at all.

If yuo are interested in cutting edge political thought of the time I'd recommend The Discourses by Machiavelli.

The history involved is much older, the intended application of the lessons learned was for the present. His present, the early 16th century.

If you have a Kindle then you can get a lot of free eBooks on Amazon to do with English history and history of Kings.

Also, I don't know if you've read any of Henry Kissinger's books, but they're great value for money and well worth a read. His memoir books (Years of Upheaval, etc etc. 3 book set) are pretty sizeable and should see you through 20 hours.

I'll give 'Years of Upheaval' a look. Thanks Tywin

It looks to be going very cheap on eBay. I'll strongly consider this one. Thanks Keith

One of my parent's friend offered to buy me a book. I'm have an approximately 20hr flight coming up and thought I'd take the offer, but I have no idea which book I want.

I enjoy history, especially around the 15th and 16th century, and specifically am Interested in prominent individuals of history.

Any recommendations?

You might like CJ Sansom's novels, set in the sixteenth century. Also set at that time are books by SJ Parris, which have a religious backdrop
