  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been listening to bone thugs for quite a while now. But I recently found out they might be devil worshippers or sonething. If so I will stop listening to them. Is it true?. I also listen to 2pac and other hip hop artists.

The answer is simple.

Who do they glorify? God or themselves? Many of them use God in their lyrics, but which God? The god of money and wordliness? Yes, that is the world's God.

That is not the God of the bible.

I know what you mean... I stopped listening to Tool for the same reason, but I think I've learned something since then as well. Perhaps a question will help - what happens to you when you listen to them? What impact does it have on you? What words are you saying when you rap along to them? Not just talking about Bone Thugs, but any music.

As we pursue God one of our greatest struggles is "being transformed by the renewing of our mind". We grow up thinking certain things and acting certain ways because of the culture, people, influences, etc. around us. It is not easy to stop thinking the way you have always thought - you have to realize what Truth is and align yourself with that.

So, if you find that listening to certain artists pulls you into thinking the way everyone else around you thinks, then perhaps that could be your litmus test.

If you struggle with violence and don't see why its wrong, then I would say you shouldn't be listening to things which promote violence. Replace "violence" with your personal struggles and then read the sentence again to help you know if you should be listening to them or not. This is not a perfect test, but may be helpful.
