Yes, I remember learning about telomeres in biology. They get shorter and shorter as we get older.

The various tissues and organs require resources to maintain in usable condition. The longer they exist, the more repairs they require. At some point it offers no evolutionary advantage to extend the life of a individual after reproduction has completed.

As I recall, it's been estimated that about 120 billion Homo sapiens have ever lived on the earth. Death is an ecological necessity. If none of our species--or any living animal--didn't die, our planet would be depleted of resources. Not to mention that the fossil record suggests that all multicellular animal species eventually go extinct. (Plants seem to be more resistant.) So unless we develop the technology to leave Earth and colonize other planets, the same fate will befall us.

Most early death can be avoided through diet. Dr Ornish has proved this again and again.

Diet and exercise. You insurance will pay for you to go through programs to teach you how to live longer and how to be more healthy. They are paying right now for a physical therapist which cost a lot more than I can afford to pay.
