  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

and the Church which according the EOC houses the Ark of the Covenant is called "St. Mary of Zion." Very interesting.

Hate to pull this thread away from the original post, but it was the through the Ethiopian church that I first learned that there was anything east of Rome. I did a research project on the current claims to the location of the Ark of hte Covenant about 6 years ago. I guess you could say it was one of hte signposts that led me to the true path.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the repose of Robert Nesta Marley. Many people do not know that before his death, Bob embraced the Ethiopian Orthodox Faith and was baptized with the name Berhane Selassie.

My friend is really into Marley and I love much of the few songs I've heard. It does not surprise me that VH1 did not mention his Christian conversion, only that weird stuff he followed before. Our media will never promote the faith, and academia will never be better about it either, as evidenced by what they've done with Charles Darwin.

I just wrote a ginormous paper about reggae, Rastafarianisms, Ethiopia, and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. It's a fascinating socio-religious study.

The Rastafarian community tries to cover it up, but Marley's conversion wasn't a death bed thing. His wife and kids converted years before, he had been attending services and communicating regularly with the bishop, and it was out of fear (at some points, for his life) that Marley waited until he was in America to be baptized. In fact, his baptism was on like the fifth try, because he kept having to move it.

The really weird part about the Rastas denying that his baptism happened is that he had a giant funeral (Rastas don't believe in funerals, because they don't acknowledge death) and that it was Orthodox.

Have you ever heard the Abyssinians? They're a reggae group from around the same era as Marley and the Wailers, but were Orthodox all along. They even had ties to an EO monastery, I think.
UFO,
Many of us are anxiously awaiting a lonk to your paper!

I have Bob Marley and the Wailers, 10/31/73 from The Record Plant in Sausalito, CA living on my hard drive as we speak. It is a live soundboard recording that was only circulated among bootleggers and traders....and Bob was completely supportive of recording and trading of live music.

I will send a copy (IT IS SWEET!) to the first 5 folks that PM me with their mailing address. :) Probably should be stateside....I do not know what international mail would cost, but I would look into it.

Memory eternal!

What about Darwin?

I was referring to the fact that Darwin never doubted the existence of God. He simply did not believe in a literal seven-day creation. Yet, athiests herald him as some kind of "saint" in their "church" as if he completely debunked the idea of God. In his later years, Darwin began to doubt some of his earlier ideas and expressed the real possibility of a creation like the Genesis account. This is seldom talked about when Darwin is written about.

Sorry, my web host isn't allowing publishing right now. In fact, when I go to the site where I normally post things, there's a picture of the CEO making a sad puppy face that says, "Sorry your broadband is messed up. We're working on it." or something like that. It's ridiculous. I'll try later today, and if it doesn't work then, I'll see if I can link to my school's storage space. Yeesh.
