I thought Bob Dylan wrote some quite meaningful lyrics however his voice isn't my cup of tea. Bob Dylan's songs are quite good... when other artists are singing them.

Anyone listen to Bob Dylan? What era do you like best?

I've been getting into him a lot lately, though I can't say I have a heap of his records...
I'm a big fan. I like his acoustic work better, and his latest stuff.

"My Back Pages" is probably the greatest song ever written.

I've been a Dylan fan for many years. I went to a Dylan concert back in the 70's. I've got most of his albums. Who cares if he can't sing, I love him for his mind. My favorite Dylan albums are "Blonde on Blonde" and "Blood on the Tracks".

HUGE Dylan fan here, as you can tell from the name......

favorite era? He was at his artistic peak from '65-'67. Blonde on Blonde is fantastic, and his following album John Wesley Harding (his first to contain overtly Godly lyrics/themes) is underrated and extraordinary.

favorite album? Blood on the Tracks.

I like his 1964-1969 albums best. "Highway 61 Revisited," "Bringing It All Back Home," and "Blonde on Blonde" are my favorites.

As for individual tracks, the song "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry" is my favorite, and I also really like "Positively 4th Street," "Subterranean Homesick Blues," and "Tangled Up in Blue."

Im a big Dylan fan as well. I like his late 60's-early 70's output the best. My favorite album is probably "Bringing it all Back Home" although "Blood on the Tracks" would be right up there too. Actually the first Dylan album I owned was a live album he did with the Band called "Before the Flood" in '74 and contains some great versions of both artists material, and the side with Dylans acoustic only readings of some of his classics remain my favorite versions of those songs.

I don't feel super-informed about Dylan's vast catalog. I have Love & Theft, Saved, and Slow Train Coming... although recently ordered Nashville Skyline, Blonde on Blonde, and Highway 61 Revisited.

also recently downloaded a bootleg of the album he recorded with Johnny Cash. Can't believe that still has not been released.

Saw him live several years back with Willie Nelson. Dylan did a great job... but Nelson was freakin' fantastic.

The wife and I went to a concert of his back in '01. The 60's was the high point of his career, no doubt about that. I can't stomach anything he did in the '80s other than the stuff he did as a member of the Traveling Wilburys. It's a shame Roy Orbison didn't live any longer, they were churning out some awesome stuff.:( I love Knockin' On Heaven's Door and All Along the Watchtower. His recent stuff isn't too bad either.

I agree. Bob Dylan didn't quite have the voice but his melodies and lyrics are forever catchy!

I'd say his voice fit PERFECTLY with the poetic lyrics and semi-rugged melodies. Robert Plant or Whitney Houston would sound ridiculous singing "Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again" IMHO.......
