• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I love the honest posts of the believers here. No one tries to disguise his weakness. Rather, imitating Paul and Peter who boasted their weakness, he admits honestly his weakness.

On my behalf I will not boast, except of my weakneses. (2 Corinthians)

I will boast all the more gladly of my weakneses,
so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. (2 Corinthians)

I pray that Christ gives his power to those who seek him in submission and weakness. Amen.

Through cutting our own weakness has been revealed to us. When the urge to cut overcomes us, we see how powerless we are. As this gets repeated, we become weary. The burden seems to be too much for us to carry.

Come to me all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens,
I will give you rest. (Matthew)

We do not despair and get crushed, for we carry all our burdens to Jesus and receive his rest. It is a certain promise from our Lord.

I pray that we all receive the rest from the Lord Jesus. Amen.

Except- you know, until very recently- I seriously struggled with the "burden easy and yoke light" thing-- and it's been e deacde and a half since I last cut...

I really would get so mad at Jesus and think "Easy, yeah right..." I didn't experience any rest- just more struggles day after day....

Only over the past little bit have I learned better what that means-- and for me it is the power of letting go...letting go my resentment, letting go my expectations, letting go my perfectionism and my desire to control others, letting go of thinking I need to be perfect....
letting go and literally throwing my arms around the Neck of JEsus on the Cross, where He will hold me, and where I don't even have to fight or struggle, oranything--but rather that He will do it all for me-- The reason the yoke is easy is because He is carrying it on His back, and I merely need to hang on to HIm and let HIm save me....

This has been a long, long lesson for me-- and one I don't adhere to everyday still.... surrender for me has been in bits and starts; healing in bits and starts...but if I only keep my gaze locked on the eyes of JEsus, holding me on that Cross-- He will keep me from falling away into the abyss....

If you do not forgive others,
neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Hurting someone with hurtful words and deeds is like shooting an arrow. It hurts when the arrow enters the body. It continues to hurt while it is lodged in the body. And it hurts a lot when it is pulled out. Arrow is truly a vicious weapon.

Hurtful words (or deeds) hurt when they are spoken just like an arrow. Because I am a believer, I must forgive the person. In order to forgive, I must remember the pain the person inflicted on me. Remembering painful moments is truly painful. But I must endure in order to forgive the person. This is the pain of pulling out an arrow.

Who said forgiving is easy and painless? Forgetting is easy, but forgiving is reliving the pain.

If you do not forgive others,
neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

If forgiving was easy, Jesus would not have said this.

Love your enemy,
do good to those who hate you.

Many of Jesus' commands are not easy to keep. I must put my heart on them first. Slowly, they become easier.

Great posting! That verse in Matthew is really something that I have been trying ot get my head around. If I truely understood it and believed it in my heart, then life would be so much easier. It is one of those verse that is easier to read than to truel believe that it applies to you.

Some of us have experienced abuses. Much evil has been done to us and we carry scars. Some of our behaviors are direct results of this painful past.

We open the Bible, seeking comfort. And we find Jesus' word:

If you do not forgive others,
neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Jesus' commands are the same whether we experienced abuses or not. This seems unfair.

Hating those who hate us is our instinct. No one can forgive those who hate him with his own will. One must receive the power to forgive from the Lord.

When we cannot forgive those who've done evil to us, we cannot but fall before the Lord Jesus and confess, "Lord, I cannot forgive them. Give me your forgiveness so that I can obey your command." Then the Lord will enable us to forgive. No one can forgive without receiving from above.

Let us forgive all, for it is the will of our Lord Jesus for us.
Let us forgive all and please our Lord Jesus.
Let us forgive all so that we will be free from our past.

Merry Christmas!
