Despite the band claiming no religious connections whatsoever, I can't help but feel moved to reverence and tears for Jesus Christ when I hear these songs.
And that's all I'm moved to.
It's odd, I've always looked for God's fingerprint in music in the thoughts it evoked and the feelings it moved one to.
But I think that Boards of Canada have unknowingly stumbled upon some particular sounds and melodies (or patterns of notes) that when combined, produce something that God ordained in eternity past.
If you can locate them on the net, give them a listen.
Or ask me and I'll pass them off to you in a copyright friendly form.
