Thank you to anyone reading this for your prayers as I begin blood pressure meds for the first time ever. I'm not a good pill taker but my BP has been averaging around 135/80. My doctor prescribed medication, which I'll begin tonight. Seems a little scary, but I know God is with me. Thank you so much!

What medication did your doctor give you? And what BP is your doctor wanting yours to be?

The doctor prescribed Lisinopril. It has it's pros and cons from what I've read, but don't they all? She's looking at getting it stabilized around 120/70 or perhaps lower. And that's where it was up until several months ago. But now it tends to spike up to 145/85 at times, sometimes higher. She seemed concerned with how much sleep I was getting, or not getting.

I did take the first dose last evening and didn't suffer any ill effects. My husband is a retired nurse and assured me I wouldn't. :grinning: I went to bed at 10 PM and slept through until 6:15, which was completely out of the ordinary for me.

So, thank you and everyone else for your prayers.

All I will add is that once I quit consuming too much salt my blood pressure went down and quit spiking. My Dr. never even mentioned that method though for most it is well known, I did not think pre-packaged or restaurant. foods had so much until I noticed my diet was was spiking my blood pressure. Losing weight and making sure your potassium is balanced will also help. Sometimes the Dr.'s office can raise your reading, so just check at home with a good cuff of your own. I read Lisinpril in the USA has 82 million prescriptions filled each year. I think it is considered the first in line for many doctors.

The DASH diet, which includes sodium concerns -- but also has more aspects, has been shown to be as effective as 1 blood pressure pill. There is lots of information on the internet about this.
