  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Blockbuster Inc. will rent high-definition DVDs only in the Blu-ray format in 1,450 stores when it expands its high-def offerings next month, dealing a major blow to the rival HD DVD format..."

Interesting. But will it make much difference in the long run? I'd think the future of in-home movies will be on-line downloads.

I'm sure Blockbuster will still carry normal dvd's till they fade out like VHS....they are just going to keep Blu-Ray for HD quality stuff...not HD-DVD's.

After watching Blu-Ray...man, I sometimes have a hard time going back to DVD's...the difference is night and day.

I think Blu-Ray players will drop in price pretty fast. They already are in fact. Thankfully my PS3 has that ability already! :)

Price isn't a huge concern for me...(not because i'm rich because...hah! I'm not) I usually buy things used. (and by used I mean from amazon where you can buy things still in the package, just from other sources)

If you watch movies a lot, you owe it to yourself to get he full experience and watch Blu-Ray...because it's pretty much gonna take over the country pretty quick as players drop in price.

I don't think it'll be as quick as the way DVD took over VHS...but it will still be a pretty fast progression.

If that also excludes regular DVDs and videotapes, then they could be going down.

Good,I hope they Crash N Burn along with the studios that are switching to Blu-Ray only like Sony, and Disney, trying to FORCE people to have to buy another DVD player, and pay stinkin $34.99 their DVDs!

The format also has broad support from the major movie studios as a successor to today's DVD format. In fact, seven of the eight major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) are supporting the Blu-ray format and five of them (Disney, Fox, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) are releasing their movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format.

I don't know though. I think this will become like the old laser discs and something else will make way instead of blu-ray. The cost is too high and because of the type of laser it uses, I doubt we will see a major drop in price over time as we did with VHS and DVD. Especially with the demand for them as high as it is now days.

By the time it would become a standard, something much better will be available. Not to mention that it's really too soon for a major update like that. Some people are still just now switching their collection of movies to DVD. They aren't going to turn around and buy a whole new setup and replace them all again.

Does anybody know…will you need a new DVD player? What will Netflix be going to??? Do you see the day we all have (3) DVD players DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-ray DVD.
More then likely what will happen is BLU-RAY players will incorporate HD-DVD so that their players can play both and either of them will play old DVD's. Backwards compatibility is a good thing.
