You ever looked directly into the brightness of the sun for a few seconds? Well, if you were a silly child like me you will know that it will leave you with a temporary blind spot for a while, and could even damage your eyes.
In this we see the very thing which gives us sight, can also take away that sight be reason of its brightness. Much in the same way the Light of the Truth in Gods Word can also do the same for those who do not recieve it by faith.
Jesus said in John 9:39;"For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and they which see might be made blind."
In this we see how the Word of Truth can give sight when recieved by Faith, or it can make blind for those who think they already know the Truth. This same temporary blindness was shown in Saul in Acts 9:9 when he was blinded for 3 days after seeing the bright light from heaven.
Just as Saul was to be a sign given for the blindness that would come upon the children of Israel for not recieving the Word of God by Faith. We are told in Romans 11:7-8;"What then? Israel has not obtained that which it seeked for; but the election has obtained it, and the rest were blinded (According as it is written, God has given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear) unto this day."
And we are told in Romans 11:25 that this blindness has happened to Israel in part, until the fulness of the Gentiles comes in. And if blindness was given to those who are beloved for the fathers sake, how much less shall the enemies of God be made blind? And that is what we see in story of Lot in Sodom in Genesis 19:11 with the men of the wicked city being made blind at the door.
Those two angels came in unto Lot, just like the Lords 2 witnesses come in unto his elect to bear witness of the Truth to the world. And even though the men of the city desired to know them, they could not, and were then made blind.
Just like those 5 foolish virgins who did not have oil in their lamps, and desired the oil of the wise. And because of the lack of Oil they could not see, and they were left outside the door.
In Exodus 10;21-22 we see the Lord told Moses to stretch out his hand toward heaven that there would be a deep darkness come over the land of Egypt for 3 days so that none of the Egyptians could see one another. But in verse 23 we see all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings, just like those wise virgins who had that Holy Oil of the Spirit of God to guide them in a darkened world.
This darkened world is shown in Job 10:22;"A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness." We see even though this world has light, it is truly still in darkness toward the Light of the Lord.
The Lord said in Isaiah 29:14;"Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid."
Just as this wicked generation is wise in its conciet, but is truly blind toward the knowledge of God. Why? Because they did not seek the Lord by Faith. And so they, by the hardness of their own hearts were made blind.
So that which is to be a guiding light to the faithfull in Christ, has become blindness to the rest of the world. Just as the Lord's "great cloud of witness" in the last days would also be a cloud of covering for the rest of the world that was to be made blind.
We see this cloud of judgment in Exodus 14:19-20;"And the Angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
20. "And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud of darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night."
Again we see, some are given sight by the Light, but for others they shall be blinded by the same Light.
